Xiaomi could launch a stock Android running phone very soon. Latest reports suggest that Xiaomi is working with Google itself to launch a phone that won’t be running MIUI, but unadulterated stock Android software. The phone in question will be a variant of Mi 5X dubbed as the Xiaomi A1.

And that makes things all the way more interesting because Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will lauch a new dual camera phone, most probably Mi 5x, in India next month (September).

It’s one thing to have a stock Android phone and entire another to have Google optimize the software. And since Xiaomi’s stock Android phone will be a part of Android One project, you won’t be out of line expecting a snappy bug-free experience.

Now, Xiaomi’s hardware prowess combined with Google’s light software sure sounds like a dream but it might finally be happening, even when it sounds too good to be true.

This isn’t the first time we are hearing about Xiaomi and Android One in the same breath. Hugo Barra, Ex Xiaomi VP of Global Expansion to expressed his desire to work with Google on an Android One phone when the project was initially introduced in India.

Why a stock Android Phone from Xiaomi makes sense

Xiaomi has a loyal MIUI user base and such users might find the stock skin to be a bit lack lustre, but the Android One phone will help it capture consumers who are not particularly enchanted by the customized skin or perhaps those who have already been using Xiaomi phones and are looking forward to upgrading to something refreshingly different.

And since this will be an Android One Phone, Google will be handling software updates, which means Xiaomi A1 will also be a good contender for Android O and future version upgrades.

Will Xiaomi’s stock Android Phone (A1) come to India?

Yes. Since Google has been eyeing an opportunity to bring back Android One to India in a big way, there are very good chances that Xiaomi will be bringing this to India. The Mi 5X variant coming to India next month could be Xiaomi A1 as well.

Xiaomi A1 Specifications and Features

Xiomi A1 hardware will be similar to Mi 5X. The primary highlight of the phone will be the dual camera system (for optical zoom) borrowed from Mi 6. The phone will also have a full metal chassis with 2.5D glass on the front and fingerprint reader on the rear.

It’ll be powered by Snapdragon 625 paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Other features include 4G VoLTE support, USB Type-C, 3080mAh battery, and 5.5-inch Full HD display.
