Whatsapp has finally rolled out its much-anticipated group voice and video call feature for Android and iOS users. With the new conference calling, users can connect with up to four people in one go. Whatsapp claims its users spend more than 2 billion minutes on call every day, which justifies the strong demand for this update. The firm’s parent company Facebook had made an official announcement regarding this update in May, this year.

Highlights

  • Whatsapp will now support conference call feature for making both voice and video calls
  • The feature is live for iOS and Android environment
  • The update can support a maximum of four people at one time

Whatsapp’s video calling feature was first introduced in 2016, but back then the app could only support a basic two people conversation. With this new update, Whatsapp will now support both video and voice conferencing. For uninterrupted user experience, Whatsapp has designed the module to function under slow network situations. Just like the Whatsapp messages that are loved for its strong data privacy feature, these calls will also be end-to-end encrypted for user privacy.

How to make conference audio and video calls on WhatsApp

To make a group video or voice call, begin with a voice or video call with one of your Whatsapp contacts. Once the connection is established, a button at the top right corner with “Add Person icon” will appear, that will allow you to add more participants to the call.

As soon as the receivers accept the conference call request, names of all participating users will be displayed on the screen, separated by a comma. One can add a maximum of three participants (which sums up total 4 participants) after a basic call has been established. One can install this update from the Google Play store and Apple App store.
