How does a geyser work?

Talking about the basic working of a geyser, it works on an electrical resistance heating element that is located in the middle of the tank. The current passes via the heating element and the thermostat, which is used to control the temperature of the water whenever the water heater is turned on. If the water heater has a storage tank, then the heating element heats the water whenever it is required.

The instant water heater takes water from the primary tank, while a storage water heater has a separate tank onboard as a component that keeps a custom amount of water for usage. The geysers that ship with thermostat help in monitoring the temperature of the water that is being heated up to a set temperature. We will further move on to the types of water heaters or geysers.

Types of water heaters and geysers in India

Instant water heaters

The Instant water heater, or you can say a geyser, is an electronic product that heats the water instantly as soon as the water passes through it. This type of geyser is used in bathrooms mainly for the purpose the bathing. However, they can be used in the kitchen for even washing utensils. It is compact can size and can be easily fitted in the bathroom or kitchen without any issues.

The instant water heater cannot store water, and it requires running water for the purpose of heating. Moreover, it can also heat water instantly, depending on the speed of water passing from it. These types of geysers have a longer life and don’t come with an integrated water tank.

Storage water heaters:

It works in a different way as compared to the instant water heater. The storage water heaters have a storage tank combined with them that can store a few litres of water. As soon as you turn it on, it takes a few minutes to heat a certain amount of water, and then you are good to go. One thing which you have to keep in mind is that these geysers consume more electricity as compared to that of instant heaters. Star rating

The start rating shows how energy efficient the appliance is, which means the appliances with high star ratings will consume less electricity as compared to those with low star ratings. Keep it in mind that the geysers with high star ratings are available in the market for a higher price, while the low star rating geysers can be bought at minimal prices.

Features that should be considered before buying geysers

Warranty: That goes without saying, you should always go for a heater that comes with a sufficient warranty. This is suggested because home appliances can face technical issues at any point in time after usage. The warranty ensures that you will get the after-sales services without any hassles.

Built-in thermostat: Thermostats help in automatically turn a geyser off as soon as the water reaches a certain temperature. They also prevent the overheating of the water, thus consuming less power.

Hard-water resistant: You have to make sure that if you are living in an area where hard water is prominent, then you should purchase a geyser that can sustain hard water without getting corroded easily. Geysers these days come with an anti-corrosive layer that helps in keeping the geyser away from corrosion. Simultaneously, you can also use a water softener to keep your geyser safe.
