TL; DR
  • The vivo X200 Ultra is officially launching in April 2025.
  • It introduces vivo’s first dedicated camera button with a sliding mechanism, likely for zoom, focus, or exposure control.
  • The phone features dual imaging chips, with the VS1 handling pre-processing and the V3+ managing the post-processing.
  • The vivo X200 Ultra is expected to remain exclusive to China, with no plans for a global release.

vivo has officially announced that its flagship vivo X200 Ultra will launch in April 2025, a revelation made during the Boao Forum for Asia. While the exact date remains undisclosed, the company also hinted at the debut of the vivo X200s alongside the Ultra model.

The X200 Ultra has been named the “Official Smartphone of Boao Forum for Asia,” something that shows its role as a showcase for vivo’s imaging. The teaser campaign for the X200 Ultra has also started, focusing heavily on its camera capabilities.

vivo’s Camera Button

vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao shared an official image showcasing the device’s right side, revealing a dedicated camera button with a distinctive blue strip. This button, a first for vivo smartphones, is positioned below the volume keys and appears to support a sliding mechanism.

This sliding mechanism could allow users to adjust zoom, focus, or exposure settings, like the iPhone 16 series and the OPPO Find X8 Pro. The image also compared the X200 Ultra’s side profile to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, indicating a slimmer design, though specific dimensions were not provided.

vivo X200 Ultra Camera Specifications

The vivo X200 Ultra is said to feature a triple-camera setup, including a 50MP Sony LYT-818 main sensor with a 35mm focal length (a first for vivo), a 50MP Sony LYT-818 ultra-wide lens with a 14mm focal length (also a first), and a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP9 periscope telephoto lens with an 85mm focal length.

The 35mm main lens is a departure from the wider lenses typically found in smartphones, which often range in the 23-27mm range.. vivo has collaborated with ZEISS for the optics, and there are unconfirmed rumors of a partnership with Fujifilm.

VS1 and V3+ Dual Imaging Chips

vivo also revealed that the X200 Ultra will incorporate two dedicated imaging chips: the VS1 for pre-processing tasks like exposure adjustment and image stacking, and the V3+ for post-processing functions such as noise reduction and sharpening.

New Flash System

A triple LED flash system, designed to adjust lighting based on the focal length, was highlighted as a feature to improve low-light photography. This also includes a multi-spectral sensor for better color reproduction.

Camera Samples

Additionally, vivo shared camera sample comparisons with the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the Canon Eos 5 Mark 4 DSLR, suggesting better low-light performance and dynamic range than the iPhone.

However, these company-provided samples should be approached with caution, as they don’t fully represent real-world performance. They might also be tweaked or adjusted, so take these with a pinch of salt.

vivo X200 Ultra Expected Specifications

The X200 Ultra is expected to feature a 6.82-inch 2K LTPO OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It may also include a 6,000 mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, alongside an IP68/IP69 rating for dust and water resistance.

Unfortunately, the device is likely to be exclusive to China, meaning it won’t be arriving in India or the global markets. The vivo X200 Ultra will be competing with the also-being-teased OPPO Find X8 Ultra. More information on the launch is expected soon, so stay tuned.
