  • vivo has confirmed the X Fold6 will debut with the custom MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, making it the first foldable powered by the new chipset.
  • vivo says the chip was co-developed over two years and brings improvements to multitasking, AI performance, and power efficiency for foldable devices.
  • The X Fold6 is expected to feature an 8.03-inch inner display, a battery close to 7,000 mAh, 100W charging, and a 200 MP main camera system.

vivo has officially confirmed that the upcoming X Fold6 will be powered by a customized version of MediaTek’s latest flagship chipset. Ahead of the foldable’s launch in China, a company executive revealed on Weibo that the device will debut with the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, making it the first foldable smartphone to use the new platform.

This marks a rather interesting change for vivo’s foldable lineup. Previous X Fold devices have used Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, while the X Fold6 will instead introduce a MediaTek-powered flagship foldable.

vivo Details Custom Foldable-Focused Chip

According to vivo, the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition was developed jointly over a period of more than two years and has been optimized specifically for foldable smartphones.

The company says the platform focuses on multitasking, AI processing, and power efficiency. vivo claims the chip delivers smoother multi-window operation, faster rendering when multiple apps are open simultaneously, and improved responsiveness across foldable-specific workflows.

AI is another major focus. vivo says peak AI computing performance has increased by 111% compared to the previous-generation NPU, while power consumption has been reduced by 56%. The company also claims 7% faster offline voice transcription and speech recognition, 57% faster text generation, and a 20% improvement in AI reasoning performance.

Expected vivo X Fold6 Specifications

While vivo has only confirmed the chipset so far, leaks have already revealed several details about the upcoming foldable.

The X Fold6 is expected to feature an 8.03-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED inner display paired with a 6.53-inch AMOLED cover screen. The device is also rumored to pack a battery close to the 7,000 mAh mark with support for 100W wired charging and wireless charging.

Camera leaks suggest a triple rear setup consisting of a 200 MP main camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50 MP periscope telephoto camera. The foldable is also expected to include dual 20MP selfie cameras, one on the cover display and another on the inner screen.

On the software side, vivo has already confirmed that the device will ship with OriginOS 6 Fold, which introduces a number of multitasking and productivity-focused features designed for large-screen foldables.

Launch Expected Later This Month

The X Fold6 has already started appearing in official teasers and has also been spotted in real-world photos ahead of launch.

vivo is expected to unveil the device in China later this month. More details, including pricing, availability, and the complete specification sheet, are likely to be revealed during the official launch event.
