Upbeat Xiaomi To Add Two More Manufacturing Unit and Launch More Devices In India

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer wants to eat a bigger chunk of Indian smartphone market cookie. For this precise reason, it  is planning to set up two manufacturing plants in India as per the report published in the Economic Times. Xiaomi’s President and Co-founder Bin Lin also announced that his company is on course to launch more devices in India this year.

Currently, Xiaomi manufactures 75 percent of its smartphone in India under is production partnership with Foxconn. Now, it is in talks with Foxconn to set up to more manufacturing units in India, as Lin revealed to ET. Xiaomi India head Manu Jain further added that the company is hoping to get at least one of facilities to start production “within this year”.

Xiaomi is now in the mood to take the full advantage of Make in India initiative and other perks announced by the government in the Union Budget 2016. According to Lin, a former Microsoft and Google executive, Xiaomi is hopeful of manufacturing mobile phone components and accessories here in India. “We’ve already started working on bringing some of those local sourcing suppliers to India,” Lin told ET.

Last year, Xiaomi had a competitively dull year as it was engaged in a legal tussle with Ericsson. However, Xiaomi has marched past all that and made an impressive start in 2016 with the launch of Redmi Note 3. The Redmi Note 3(first impression) first flash sale was held on 8 Feb 2016 and went sold out within seconds on both Mi.com and Amazon India.

The company is scheduled to launch its flagship device Mi 5 (first impression) in the month of April as Xiaomi VP Hogo Bara made the announcement at the Redmi Note 3 launch event. Xiaomi also has plans to launch another device in India somewhere in the second half of 2016. Apart from smartphones, Xiaomi has launched a Mi Bluetooth Speaker in India and expected to launch a 20,000mAh power bank in India.
