As we anticipate the release of the iPhone 16, rumors are already swirling about what Apple has in store for the iPhone 17 lineup, slated for release in 2025. According to a report from esteemed Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 models are set to receive a design overhaul and refreshed names.

Among the anticipated updates are a new Slim model, a smaller dynamic island on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a significant upgrade to the front-facing camera across all models, now sporting a 24 MP lens.

iPhone 17 Slim

The iPhone 17 Slim is rumored to feature a 6.6-inch display, as display analyst Ross Young also hinted at earlier. This size change, previously rumored for the Plus model, suggests that the Slim model might replace the current one.

As the name suggests, the Slim model will boast a sleeker design, including a slimmer body and a slightly reduced size of 0.1 inches from the current Plus model’s 6.7 inches.

Smaller Dynamic Island

Further details indicate that Apple will use “metalens” technology for the proximity sensor on the Pro Max model, which helps reduce the size of the Face ID sensor. This could potentially lead to a smaller Dynamic Island or even a punch-hole cutout, similar to those found on most Android devices that we have today.

More RAM

In terms of performance, the iPhone 17 and 17 Slim are expected to support 8 GB of RAM and either the A18 or A19 chip. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are rumored to feature 12 GB of RAM and the A19 Pro chip.

The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, on the other hand, are likely to feature either the A17 Pro or the A18 chip, which will determine whether the iPhone 17 and 17 Slim will house the A18 or A19 chip.

24 MP Front Camera

Finally, Apple is set to upgrade the front camera to a 24 MP lens across the entire iPhone 17 lineup, a significant bump from the current 12MP cameras found in the iPhone 15 and expected in the iPhone 16 series.

Summing Up

To round it all up, the iPhone 17 series will replace the Plus model with the Slim model (6.6-inches), have a smaller Dynamic Island on the Pro Max model, and have a 24 MP selfie shooter across the lineup. Finally, it’s important to note that these are very early rumors, and hence Apple’s plans may change as we get closer to the launch of the iPhone 17 lineup.

Anyway, what’s your take on the new “alleged” iPhone 17 Slim? Should Apple finally give up 60 Hz and introduce ProMotion to the standard iPhone models? Let’s discuss this in the comments section below.
