Tesla Model Y L To Launch in India On April 22, Reports Suggest: Everything You Need To Know

Tesla lsat year made its much-awaited entry to the Indian market with the company’s Model Y car. Tesla’s entry in India before its launch was highly anticipated, but given the price-sensitive market that India is, the Tesla Model Y hasn’t been able to capture the market as the brand would have wanted. To make things better, Tesla seems to be gearing up for its second car launch for India with the Tesla Model Y L.  The Tesla Model Y L is a 6-seater version of the Model Y and is only available in a few markets. Reports suggest that the Tesla Model Y L will be launched in India on April 22.

Ahead of the launch, we will tell you what you can expect from the Tesla Model Y L before its launch and what you can expect from the car. Let’s begin.

Now the name Model Y L basically means that the “L” in the name stands for long wheelbase. The Tesla Model Y L is currently only limited to a few markets. The Tesla Model Y L was launched in China last year, and was subsequently launched in a few other markets like Australia, New Zealand, and Japan later. In India, the brand is expected to launch the Model Y L later this week. The Model Y L, tailored specifically for families will be directly imported from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, reports suggest.

With the longer wheelbase and extra space, Tesla has managed to fit a third row of seating, offering a 2+2+2 layout for the passengers. The Tesla Model Y L comes with an 82kWh battery pack with an all-wheel drive drivetrain, promising a claimed range of 751 kilometers. Do note that these are the numbers from the Tesla Model Y L sold in China and numbers for the Indian version of the EV can vary.

In terms of features, there is pretty much everything you’re getting with the standard Tesla Model Y. We’re getting the nice 16-inch display which is the centre for all your car controls and settings. There is a second 8-inch display for the rear passengers that also supports games and streaming. What is different is that this will get a powered 2nd row armrest, powered and heated 3rd row and 2nd row seats, a panoramic glass roof, and more. 

In terms of dimensions, the Tesla Model Y L measures 4,976 mm in length, 1,982 mm in width, 1,668 mm in height and has a 3,040 mm long wheelbase, which is 150 mm longer than the standard Tesla Model Y.

The Tesla Model Y L is expected to be priced starting under ₹70 lakh, according to reports. The Tesla Model Y was launched in India for ₹59.9 lakh (ex-showroom) for the RWD variant and ₹67.9 lakh (ex-showroom) for the AWD Long Range variant. The Model Y L is expected to be more expensive than this, but the starting point could be closer to the AWD Long Range variant of the Tesla Model Y.
