Just days after unveiling the new Taigun, Volkswagen has announced the prices for its new C-segment SUV. The Taigun has been launched with a starting price of ₹11,00,000 (ex-showroom) onwards, going up to ₹19.3 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end variant. Volkswagen has launched a total of 11 variants of the car, which are divided among three engine and transmission combinations, and seven trims – Comfortline, Highline, Highline Plus, Topline, GT Line, GT Plus Chrome, and GT Plus Sport. In this article, we will take a look at how much each variant and trim costs and what each of it offers. Let’s take a look:

  • The base variant which is the Comfortline is available at an ex-showroom price of ₹11 lakh and is only available with the 1.0 Litre TSI engine and a manual transmission.
  • Highline trim is available in both manual and automatic options, but only gets the 1.0L TSI engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission. For the manual, it starts ata price of ₹12.7 lakh ex-showroom, and for the automatic transmission, the price has been set to ₹13.8 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • There is also a Highline Plus variant which is priced at ₹14.3 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 6-speed manual, and ₹15.45 lakh for the automatic transmission.
  • Now coming to the higher-end variants, the Taigun’s Topline is priced at ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom) for the manual transmission, and ₹17.18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 8-speed torque converter automatic.
  • The GT Line variant is also only available with the 1.0-litre TSI engine with a manual and 8-speed automatic transmission. The 6-speed manual is priced at ₹14.6 lakh (ex-showroom), while the automatic transmission is priced at ₹15.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • The GT Plus Chrome is the top-end variant and the only one that offers Volkswagen’s 1.5-litre turbo TSI engine, but it only comes with one transmission option – the popular 7-speed DSG that is also available on the VW Virtus or the Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia. It is priced at ₹19.3 lakh (ex-showroom) for the sole 1.5L variant with the DSG transmission.

The pricing of the Volkswagen Taigun is competitive, but not aggressive. Volkswagen has reduced the cost as compared to the pre-facelift version of the Taigun, but it is still more expensive than its cousin, the Skoda Kushaq. The new Skoda Kushaq, launched right before the VW Taigun, starts at a price of ₹10.69 lakh (ex-showroom), making it at least ₹30,000 cheaper than the VW Taigun. The top-end variants of both the C-SUVs are also about ₹30,000 apart from each other, where the Taigun’s GT Plus Chrome variant starts at a price of ₹19.3 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Kushaq 1.5L Monte Carlo Edition (top-end) is priced at ₹18.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
