Tata Harrier And Safari Get Turbo-Petrol Engine Besides a New ‘Ultra’ Variant

The Indian automaker Tata Motors has launched petrol-only versions of its popular SUVs, the Harrier and Safari. Both of them get the 1.5-liter T-GDi (turbo-petrol direct injection) engine, which debuted with the Tata Sierra earlier this month.

Tata’s New Turbo Petrol Engine Is Even More Powerful On The Harrier & Safari

For those catching up, Tata’s new turbo-petrol engine delivers 170 PS of peak power and 280 Nm of peak torque on the Harrier and Safari. However, if you look closely, you’ll see that the engine is tuned to produce slightly more power than in the Sierra.

While the 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine is available only with an automatic transmission on the Tata Sierra, Harrier, and Safari, buyers can also choose a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.

For stick-shift lovers, the Harrier or Safari with the new, powerful petrol engine could be a solid option. Along with the new engine option, both the SUVs get new variants. The Harrier gets two new Fearless Ultra variants, while the Safari gets four new Accomplished Ultra variants.

The “Ultra” Variants Get New Features As Well

The Ultra variants of the Tata SUVs offer new features, including a 14.5-inch infotainment system with an OLED screen, a 10-speaker JBL system with Dolby Atmos support, and a sliding armrest. Interestingly, Tata has also equipped the top variants with external washers for the front/rear cameras.

The built-in IRVM now has an integrated dashcam. Other features, such as the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, and a panoramic sunroof, remain the same for both variants.

Both the Harrier and Safari get new finishes as well: Nitro Crimson and Carnelian Red (respectively).

While the prices of the turbo-petrol powertrains haven’t been revealed, Tata Motors should announce the ex-showroom price of both the Harrier Fearless Ultra and the Safari Accomplished Ultra variants in the coming days.
