Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 just dropped a few days ago and ever since then, the hype about season 5 has started building up. The creators Matt and Ross Duffer have written an open letter to Stranger Things Fans that says, “Seven years ago, we planned our complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but- as you’ll see for yourselves- we are now hurtling towards our finale.” This means Season 5 of The Stranger Things will be its last one.
Stranger Things Season 5 Release date
The catch here is that the Stranger Things Fans might have to wait for years till season 5 is dropped. Considering the fact that Season 4 came after 3 years of Season 3 (which was partly due to the pandemic as well), we can’t expect season 5 to stream before late 2023 or early 2024. If the creators are planning something similar to the scale of season 4, then it might be a few years till the final season gets ready.
At present, the Duffer Brothers have not even started writing Stranger Things 5 as of now. The writing part is expected to begin next month, that is in August 2022. As soon as the news trickled in, fans were obviously disappointed as they realized it will be a very long wait to season 5. The wait is tough as fans are desperate to know which of their favorites from Hawkins will live or die.
Even the cast members have no clue about what is going to happen next. Sadle Stink who plays Max Mayfield said, “I can tell you with full honesty that I don’t know what is going to happen in season five.” The last we saw of Max in season 4 is of her in a coma. No one knows if she’ll survive it or not.
Stranger Things Season 5: Expectations
The series ended with the war between Upside Down and Hawkins fully on. The final shot shows a massive, hellish cloud looming above the neighborhood-and a field of flowers slowly dying. It is an indication that this war will lead to the oft terrorized Indiana town will slowly morph into the red and black hell our characters have fought to destroy for the entirety of Stranger Things.
Questions that are pertinent include will the gang have one last fight in them? Most probably yes. Season Five will most likely be about the heroes struggling to put the Upside Down back in the Upside Down- or destroy it entirely. There will be war and destruction all around and fans can only hope that none of their favorite characters die at the monstrous hands of Vecna in the series finale.
Stranger Things: Reviews & Reception
The reason why the audience is so hyped about season 5 can be seen in the fact that within a 7-day period till June 26, Netflix subscribers spent a collective 169.5 million hours streaming the show. Currently, season 4 has a 91% critics score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It has a rating of 8.7/10 on IMDb. It was ranked 3rd best TV show of the year (2016) by The Guardian and Empire and was also included on The Atlantic’s best TV Show of the year 2017 list.
