Sony introduced the high-end WH-1000XM5 Noise Cancelling Headphones approximately three years ago in May 2022. Now, the company is preparing to release its successor, the Sony WH-1000XM6, in 2025. Consumers eager for the next iteration of Sony’s noise-canceling headphones will soon have the opportunity to purchase them this year. The Sony WH-1000XM6 has recently received FCC certification under the model number YY2984. According to the latest information, it is expected to feature removable earpads and a revamped hinge design.

The modified design could enhance the durability of these headphones, as Sony provides replacement earpads in case of damage, and may also offer a variety of earpad colors for further customization. The XM6 model is anticipated to feature Bluetooth 5.3 with support for LE Audio. MediaTek will likely supply the chipset for these headphones, which are also expected to include fast charging capabilities. The driver size and software are expected to remain consistent with the XM5 model.

The confidentiality period for the new headphones concludes on July 22, 2025; however, this does not imply that the announcement will occur on that date. This is simply when the FCC will release the associated images and manual to the public. The XM5 model was revealed 13 weeks prior to the conclusion of its confidentiality period with the FCC, suggesting that a similar timeline could apply to the XM6. Given that the confidentiality period ends a few weeks earlier this time, the official launch of the Sony WH-1000XM6 may be anticipated in April 2025.
