Smartphone Companies Accuse Samsung of Hoarding Snapdragon 835 Chipset Supply: Reports

Controversy seems to be following South Korean electronics company Samsung everywhere. Fresh off the Note 7 related accidents and the criticism that followed the apparent delay in its latest flagship, the S8, the company has managed to find itself embroiled in yet another controversy.

Latest reports from Forbes as well as The Verge have claimed that the company is apparently hoarding a lion’s share of the next-gen Snapdragon 835 SoC supply, thereby forcing its contemporaries to make do with older chipsets for their new phones.

The said reports also mentioned that it is highly likely that no other smartphone would feature the Snapdragon 835 processor until and unless the company’s Galaxy S8 (expected date of release: 14th April) comes out.

The chipset was unveiled at the CES this year and is deemed to be a successor to the Snapdragon 820 SoC and boasts of improved performance and Fast Charging technology along with a variety of other features.

While one company remarked that it was content with featuring the Snapdragon 820 processor in its phones, another said the Snapdragon 835 was always going to be a little too late for the usual early-Spring tinkering in flagships.

Forbes even went as far as saying that Samsung had the ‘first dibs’ on the processor since the company has a production deal with Qualcomm to build the same. It further remarked that the other Android smartphones will get access to the chipset in late summer, in case this turns out to be true.
