Rumors about Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 have been swirling on the internet for quite some time. However, they aren’t about the vanilla foldable the Korean giant releases yearly. Instead, the rumors mention two new models that could debut for the first time in 2024. We’re talking about a more affordable version and an ‘Ultra’ version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. On March 1, 2024, we reported reliable tipster Roland Quandt saying how the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra will join the regular Z Fold 6 this year. Now, another report corroborates the possibility of Samsung releasing an ‘Ultra’ variant.

Here’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra’s Model Number

Galaxy Z Fold 5 S-Pen

According to the Dutch publication Galaxy Club, Samsung is indeed working on a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra (exclusive renders). The publication cites model numbers for different smartphones, implying that a particular module number belongs to the purported Z Fold 6 Ultra. “We can confirm that Samsung is working on a device with model number SM-F958,” the publication states. While the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (review) and the S24 Ultra (review) carry the model numbers SM-F946 and SM-S928, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be SM-F956.

Note that the character after the hyphen indicates whether the phone belongs to the foldable or the S series. Further, the number ‘8’ at the end is often used for an ‘Ultra’ smartphone. Hence, the model number SM-F958 indicates that the company is working on an Ultra foldable, which could very well be the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra. However, the new book-style foldable might not be available in all markets, at least not at launch.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra To Remain A Korea Exclusive?

According to the report, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra might not be available outside of South Korea, the company’s native market. The handset’s complete model number, SM-F968N, suggests that it will debut in South Korea before Samsung launches it in any other market, such as the United States, Europe, or India. However, there’s a good chance that the company will expand the foldable’s availability once it gets a good response in Korea. In conclusion, the publication also says it cannot confirm whether Samsung is working on a cheaper Z Fold 6.

However, on the flip side, renowned publications like The Elec and ETNews have reported that Samsung is developing a more affordable version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Encapsulating both reports, it looks like the company wants to place Galaxy Z Fold 6 as a foldable lineup (not just a smartphone). The lineup could consist of the vanilla Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Z Fold 6 Ultra, and the Z Fold 6 FE (or whatever the company decides to name the cheaper version). This will give customers more choice, particularly regarding the foldables’ cost.

Currently, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 costs Rs. 1,44,999 for the model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It is one of the most expensive smartphones money can buy, not just in India but also in international markets. Given the pricing, it would not be too far-fledged to say that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra will cost more if and when it arrives in India than the regular Z Fold 6. At the same time, the Z Fold 6 FE could cost slightly less, around Rs. 1,20,000 or so. Samsung is expected to unveil its next foldable lineup on July 10, 2024, at the mid-year Galaxy Unpacked event.
