Samsung Galaxy Unpacked August 2020 highlights: Note 20, Fold 2, Watch 3, Buds Live, Tab S7 and more

Sticking to the new-normal, Samsung has launched a swathe of products in a virtual Galaxy Unpacked event. The new debutants include the Note 20 phones, Fold 2, Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Tab S7 lineup, and the bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live.

We knew a fair deal about most of these devices thanks to a deluge of rumors. It’ll be interesting nonetheless to dive through the torrent of high-end specs and cutting edge features. After all, this is a big affair for Samsung and the smartphone audience in general. So, without much further ado, let’s have a look at the —

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020 highlights

Here’s everything launched in today’s event:

1. Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra

There are two Notes this year, viz the vanilla Note 20 with a flat 6.7″ screen and the larger Note 20 Ultra with a 6.9″ curved screen. The Ultra model is not just bigger, but also comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, QHD+ resolution, sAMOLED, Gorilla Glass Victus protection, 108MP main cam, 50X zoom, 25W fast charging, up to 12GB RAM, 512GB internal storage, 1TB micro-SD expansion and more.

They will be shipping with Snapdragon 865+/ Exynos 990 SoC and 5G connectivity (subject to market).

2. Galaxy Fold 2

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 flaunts a refined design, a 7.6-inch 120Hz display with ultra-thin UTG glass on top, punch-hole on the inner screen, and a 6.2-inch outer screen. The rest of the details as well as its pre-order will be revealed on September 1.

3. Galaxy Watch 3

Galaxy Watch 3 sports a round dial, functional rotating bezel, outfit-matching watch faces, IP68 Water Resistance, ECG, SpO2, and other health tracking options. The internals includes dual-core Exynos 9110 CPU, Mali-T720 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and Tizen-based Wearable OS 5.5 software.

It comes in two sizes viz. 41mm and 45mm.

4. Galaxy Buds Live

The bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live debuts with 6 hours of playback, 21 hours of runtime with the case, and ANC.

Inside, it packs 12mm drivers tuned by AKG, Bluetooth 5 connectivity with support for SBC, AAC, and the proprietary Scalable codecs.

5. Galaxy Tab S7, S7+

Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ are here with 11-inch (2,560×1,600 pixels) LCD and 12.4 inches (2,800×1,752 pixels) OLED displays respectively along with the 120Hz refresh rate. They feature a book cover keyboard with trackpad, quadruple speakers (also tuned by AKG), Dolby Atmos surround sound, Snapdragon 865+ chips, Android 10, and dual rear cameras.

Pricing and Availability

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 20 (5G) starts at $999.99 (~Rs. 75,400). Meanwhile, the Note 20 Ultra starts at $1,299.99 (~Rs. 97,500).
  • Galaxy Watch 3 41mm model is priced at $399 (~Rs. 30,000) while the 45mm model will cost you $429 (~Rs. 32,100).
  • Samsung has launched the Galaxy Buds Live at $169.99 (~Rs. 12,700).
  • Galaxy Tab S7 starts at EUR 699 (~Rs. 62,000), whereas the Plus variant will be available at EUR 899 (~Rs. 79,700)

Among other things, Samsung spent some time sharing details on their partnership with brands like Microsoft and Google. We learned Note 20 series and some other Galaxy phones will support Xbox Gamepass cloud gaming; and that they will ship with Android’s Nearby Share feature out of the box.
