We’re still months away from the launch of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but the rumor mill just doesn’t stop. Most recently, we talked about how the purported flagship could drop the 3x telephoto camera for in-sensor zoom. However, new rumors from renowned tipster Ice Universe suggest that Samsung will double down on the megapixel game, upgrading two out of the four cameras on the rear panel.

What We Get On The Galaxy S24 Ultra?
Just to provide some context, the S24 Ultra (review) ships with four cameras on the rear panel. We have the 200MP (f/1.7, 24mm) primary sensor. Then there’s the 50MP (f/3.4, 111mm) periscope zoom lens that provides 5x optical zoom. The 12MP (f/2.2, 13mm) shoots ultrawide pictures, while the 10MP (f/2.4, 67mm) zoom lens offers 3x optical zoom. With these sensors, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has one of the smartphone’s most versatile camera setups.
What Are The Shortcomings?

However, over the years, the competition has caught up, especially when it comes to high-resolution rear-facing cameras. Talk about a Google Pixel 8 Pro or the Vivo X100 Pro (review), for instance, and you’ll understand what we’re talking about. The former features one 50MP primary sensor and two 48MP sensors. On the other hand, the latter ships with three 50MP sensors, maintaining the quality across all the sensors.

How Can Samsung Improve The Already Excellent Camera Setup On The Galaxy S24 Ultra?
Now, Ice Universe claims that Samsung will upgrade two of the four sensors on the Galaxy S24 Ultra: the 3x optical zoom sensor and the ultrawide sensor. First, let’s talk about the zoom lens. Apparently, the Korean tech giant could bump up the sensor’s resolution from 10MP to 50MP, which should allow for better in-sensor crop.
Further, the company could also improve the ultrawide camera’s sensor from 12MP to 50MP, adding much-needed details in the super-wide shots. Currently, if you zoom in on the images clicked by the S24 Ultra’s ultrawide shooter, you’ll notice some noise and dullness, which should surely benefit from more resolution.
So, we’re looking at a Galaxy S25 camera array that retains the 200MP primary sensor and three 50MP sensors to provide zoom and ultrawide perspectives. While this isn’t something unique, it will definitely help Samsung take the excellent camera system to the next level, justifying the S25 Ultra’s price.
