After dropping the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition, the Korean tech giant is now gearing up to unveil one of the most-awaited flagship series of 2025, the Galaxy S25. Unlike every year, there could be a new addition to the usual lineup. In this article, we’ve compiled all the important details about the Galaxy S25 series that will debut in about two months.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series: Leaked Launch Timeline

According to the Korean news outlet The Financial News, the Galaxy S25 will break cover on January 23, 2025. This time, the company could hold an in-person Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco, United States. After the phones are announced, it could be another week or perhaps even two before they are available to purchase. Hence, the release date of the Galaxy 25 could be in January or early February.

This appears to be similar to the Galaxy S24 release schedule, wherein the announcement date was January 17, 2024, and the release date was January 30, 2024. However, unlike the Galaxy S24 series, the Galaxy S25 series consists of an additional model.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series: Expected Models

Usually, there are three models in the Galaxy S series. For example, the Galaxy S24 consists of the vanilla Galaxy S24, the Galaxy S24 Plus with a bigger screen, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra (review) with maxed-out specifications.

However, the Galaxy S25 series could come with four models: the regular Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and the brand-new “Galaxy S25 Slim.” Earlier, the new model was rumored to arrive later, after the first Galaxy Unpacked event for the year takes place in January, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Display, Design, And Colors

Regarding displays, the baseline Galaxy S25 could adopt a bigger 6.36-inch screen instead of the Galaxy S24’s 6.2-inch screen. The move will help the smartphone compete well against Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro, which currently has a 6.3-inch screen. However, this is expected to be the only change in the displays used across the lineup, as Samsung doesn’t want to experiment with a new screen, at least for now.

The Galaxy S25 will look and feel similar to the Galaxy S24 series, with the lower trims featuring an aluminum frame and the Ultra variant featuring a titanium frame. Even otherwise, the overall design language of the phones will be the same (except the S25 Ultra could be a little more rounded on the corners). While the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Ultra will come in seven colors, the S25 Plus will ship in eight colors.

Processor

Snapdragon 8 Elite

According to the renowned tipster Ice Universe, all versions of the Galaxy S25 series (for the United States and Asian markets) will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Why is this important? In 2024, Samsung launched two versions of smartphones: one for the United States market that featured a flagship Qualcomm chip and another for the Asian market with the in-house Exynos chip.

This applied to the baseline Galaxy S24 (review) and Galaxy S24 Plus (review) models, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in all markets. However, that might not be the case with the upcoming Galaxy S25 series.

Cameras

While there’s nothing much to expect from the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Plus, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could ship with a new, high-resolution sensor (50MP each) for the 3x optical and ultrawide cameras. However, if the regular and Plus variants wish to compete with the iPhone 16 Pro, they should feature a better high-resolution ultrawide camera as well.

Battery

Although there could be subtle improvements across the lineup, battery life may not be one of them. The Galaxy S25 series could stick with the same battery cells as the Galaxy S24 series, and this is slightly concerning, given that the Snapdragon 8 Elite consumes more power than its predecessor. Additionally, Samsung should also focus on charging speeds, as they aren’t the best in the segment.

Samsung One Ui 7.0 release timeline

Out of the box, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will run on the One UI 7.0 operating system, which is based on Android 15. While Samsung has confirmed that the phone will offer new Galaxy AI features, we don’t have an idea of what they could be and how they could work. Perhaps, Samsung will adopt some features of Google’s Pixel 9? Only time will tell.
