Samsung announced Exynos 9825 SoC just hours before the Galaxy Note 10 Unpacked event. It is the industry’s first mobile processor built with 7nm EUV (Extreme ultraviolet lithography) manufacturing process. Samsung vaunts performance improvements in terms of AI, graphics, speed, and power-efficiency. Considering the fact that it will be powering the Note 10 phones, let’s see what new it brings to the table.

Samsung Exynos 9825: What’s new?

The 7nm EUV process is the highlight of the new chip, which promises up to 20-30 percent higher transistor performance while utilizing 30-50 percent less power. Samsung highlights the importance of extreme ultraviolet wavelengths in printing finer circuits which reportedly confers a faster and more power-efficient processor.

Samsung Exynos 9825 announced

The CPU and GPU core structure remain intact as its predecessor Exynos 9820 with two custom M4 cores, teamed with two Cortex A75 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. The only apparent difference is an enhanced Cortex A75 performance, possibly resulting in a clock speed jump from 2.3 GHz to 2.4 GHz. Samsung hasn’t spelled out any change in CPU and GPU clock speeds. Else, there isn’t much different, at least on paper. We will have to wait until the phones see the daylight.

We understand Samsung has used the advanced fabrication process on an identical circuit primarily to bring about power efficiency.

Samsung Exynos 9825: Features

The brand touts an efficient on-device AI favoring object recognition for optimized photos, enhanced performance in terms of usage pattern recognition and faster app pre-loading.

Samsung Exynos 9825 launched

It is also 5G equipped thanks to the Exynos Modem 5100, which features support for 5G NR (New Radio). The 4G LTE-Advanced Pro modem and 8x Carrier Aggregation could bolster reliable and fast connectivity (up to 2Gbps download speeds).

The Exynos 9825 also brings multi-format codec (MFC) support including 10-bit HEVC (H.265) up to 8K Ultra HD video encoding and decoding. This will be compatible with 4K UHD resolution and HDR10+ display.

Samsung Exynos 9825 is official

It also houses a physically unclonable function (PUF) subsystem that is capable of encrypting and securely storing your data in perfect isolation.

We are awaiting the Galaxy Note 10 series debut to unpack and test the aforementioned features and claims.
