Just a fortnight ago, Royal Enfield had ignited considerable excitement in the auto buffs by sending out an intriguing Media invitation. The invitation was a precursor to the much-anticipated launch of the new Himalayan 450, slated for November 1st. Soon the company is going to unveil the next-generation adventure motorcycle in the country, however, even before enthusiasts can witness the bike firsthand, a set of leaked production-ready images has surfaced, offering an up-close look at the motorcycle’s design, mechanics, and notably, the utilitarian features that have been a hallmark of the current Himalayan model.

Upon closer inspection of the images, it becomes evident that the Himalayan 450 preserves the recognizable outline of its predecessor while undergoing a comprehensive transformation in every aspect. Commencing from the front end, an all-LED headlamp, reminiscent of the Super Meteor 650, takes center stage. This headlamp is accompanied by a smoked windscreen positioned atop it. A notable departure from its predecessor is the direct chassis-mounted arrangement of the headlamp assembly. The motorcycle incorporates LED turn indicators and introduces a fresh split-type front fender design. A noticeable update is evident in the redesigned front pannier stays, now equipped with multiple loops strategically positioned for luggage attachment.

The new iteration boasts an expansive and nearly flat handlebar, complemented by an entirely new set of switchgear. In contrast to the boxy-shaped fuel tank seen on the current Himalayan, Royal Enfield has chosen a rounder profile for the new version. This fluid design language extends to the side panels and the rear tail section. The motorcycle showcases a novel split-seat layout, characterized by a well-contoured and adequately cushioned appearance, catering to extended periods of comfortable riding.

At the rear, a novel luggage rack is showcased, designed with readiness for mounting a top box. The finishing touches reveal a noteworthy shift to a cast kickstand, a departure from the steel pipe variant seen in the previous model.

Examining the new Himalayan 450 closely, it’s evident that the chassis represents a significant departure from the previous model, featuring the engine as a vital structural component. Notably, the rear subframe is now a bolt-on assembly. This redesign suggests that the chassis has likely been fortified, enhancing its ability to endure the rigors of diverse terrains. Furthermore, given that the current Himalayan has a kerb weight of 199 kg, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the new iteration will weigh less than its predecessor, which bodes well for improved maneuverability and handling.

Himalayan 450 Powertrain

Anticipated to fall within the range of 35-40 bhp, the forthcoming Himalayan 450 is poised to deliver a dynamic power output. Coupled with the advantage of reduced weight, this power boost is likely to translate into agile and responsive performance. The engine will be paired with a 6-speed gearbox, enhancing its versatility across various riding conditions.
