Reliance Jio Planing To Launch Two 4G VoLTE Phones Under Rs. 1500: Report

Reliance Jio is planning to tap into the feature phones segment which still enjoys a significant user base in the country. As per media reports, Mukesh Ambani-owned enterprise is prepping up to introduce a budget 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone in the country priced as low as Rs. 1000. That’s not all, it will come bunched with Jio’s unlimited calling features, The Economic Times reported.

“Jio wants to tap all the segments in the country and sees huge potential in the rural areas, which it now aims to tap with VoLTE feature phones,” the publication quoted a source as saying. He claimed that the new devices will be aimed at first-time data users. “The 2G feature phone is still a big market in India.”

Some reports have emerged that Reliance Jio Infocomm is working two feature phones will be priced Rs. 1,000 and 1,500 respectively. Both these phones will be introduced in early 2017. Both phones will offer smartphone functionalities barring touch support. As per reports, they will run on Android OS and will be internet friendly devices.

These Keypad phones will reportedly feature cameras both on the front and back. All Jio apps are likely to come pre-installed on the handsets. Jio is in talks with Chinese company Spreadtrum, Qualcomm and MediaTek to source a VoLTE capable chipset for these low cost phones.
