Realme Buds 2 Review (wired): Great quality for a killer price

All major flagships in 2019 have ditched the 3.5mm audio jack, but the good old jack continues to be a relevant option for affordable and mid-range phones, laptops, and other such devices. (Realme Buds 2 wired Review हिंदी में पढ़िए)

Realme recently launched the second iteration of its wired buds, the Realme Buds 2.0, and at a price of Rs. 599 these should be readily accessible to young Indian consumers who are looking for value-centric products. The first generation buds that launched late last year were even cheaper but they didn’t sound very great.

Let’s discuss the improvements that have been made this generation in our Realme Buds 2.0 review.

Realme Buds 2 Review: Design and Fit

The second-generation Realme Buds 2.0 certainly looks the part. Irrespective of the price tag attached to them, the quality of cable materials here doesn’t feel cheap or shoddy.

The earphones are primarily made of plastic with a tinge of magnets in the butt. the magnets ensure that the buds stay secure in place when they are looped around your neck and not in use.

These traditional earphones from Realme have a 3.5mm connector and in-line remote with mic and controls.

The cable itself is in two parts. Above the Y-splitter it is made of rubber with ridges pattern while the bottom half is braided (fabric-wrapped) cable. Realme seems to have put in an effort to ensure a tangle-free design. These buds also include a rubber strap to keep cable tied up while packing.

And more importantly, they fit really well! The buds are properly angled in a way that they feel comfortable and offer good passive noise isolation. The wing ensures they do slip out of the ears during movement.

Both ear tips and wings are made of soft rubber and proved to be extremely comfortable even when we used them for hours. All in all, we are quite content with the Realme Buds 2 design, built and fit.

Realme Buds 2 Review: Performance

During this review, we tested these buds with Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus (review) and with Asus ZenBook 14(review). We used them for about 12 days for listening to music, audio from the regular video content, and to make calls.

Before getting to performance, let’s address the key specs first. Buds 2.0 features an 11.2mm bass boost driver with a multi-layer composite diaphragm. Each bud driver comes with a 32ohm impedance rating and a 108dB sensitivity rating, and a 20-20,000Hz frequency response range.

The Realme Buds 2 audio performance will certainly impress those who favor bass and good vocals. At the time of review, we played all sorts of music genres in different languages.

Unlike most budget offings, Realme Buds 2 has a good separation of lows and highs. Though, it does falter in the differentiation of frequencies bass. The sound staging is better than anything that we tested before in this price segment.

Realme Buds 2 Review: Controls and calling

As we mentioned before, the Realme Buds 2 has an in-line remote control also including microphones for making calls. Remote has the volume up and down buttons highlighted with yellow markings.

A multi-purpose button is sandwiched between the two-volume adjustment keys. The key at the center can be used for play or pause and changing tracks and attending or disconnecting calls.

During the testing phase, we answered and made several calls using the Buds 2. We had no trouble hearing what the caller had to say. Similarly, our replies too were loud and clear. In the noisy surroundings, the microphone faces trouble picking a clean voice, but that’s to be expected when considering earphones priced under Rs. 1000.

Realme Buds 2 Review Verdict: Should you buy it?

Realme has been quite successful in its short India journey. We are glad that the brand is now expanding its efforts to audio peripherals with the same aggression. The Realme Buds 2 (and even Wireless Buds) come at a killer price.

These earphones offer good built, have a great fit, and reasonably good sound quality with some punchy bass and clear vocals. That’s indeed more than what you can expect at Rs. 699 and thus the Realme 2 Buds make for a strong recommendation.

Pros

  • Elegant design and build quality
  • Clean Vocals
  • punchy bass
  • Great value for money

Cons

  • Highs lack punch at times
