A couple of days after its global unveiling, the Realme 5i is now official in India. The new arrival joins the existing Realme 5 and Realme 5s, but it’s actually a replacement to the Realme 5.

The Realme 5i is driven by Snapdragon 665 octa-core chipset assisted by 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The 6.5-inch IPS LCD display has 720p HD+ resolution and houses an 8MP selfie camera within its notch. The software is currently Android 9-based Color OS 6.1 and it will be upgraded to Android 10-based ColorOS 7 by May 2020.

The phone houses a beefy 5000mAh battery with reverse charging support. The lack of fast charging is perhaps excusable considering the affordable price of Rs. 8,999.

“We are happy that over 5.5 million customers have enjoyed our realme 5 series and the newest addition realme 5i will further solidify our budget Quad-Camera category. Our customers will be provided with stunning design, bigger view along with bigger storage and a powerful Quad Camera set up in realme 5i. We have equipped realme 5 series with the best-in-class processors, designs and camera experience to deliver unmatched user experience.” – Said Madhav Sheth, CEO, realme India, at the launch.

Realme 5i Features

So far one of the highlight features of Realme 5i is the 5000mAh battery. This will be a noticeable leap from the predecessor, which only had a 4230mAh battery. However, we don’t think Realme would flip the script with fast charger support here.

The rear panel is now a quartet, which includes – Ultra Wide-angle lens (f/1.8 aperture), Primary Lens, Portrait Lens, and Macro Lens. The alleged sensors are 12-megapixel primary one, followed by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro camera.

As for the front, although we don’t know the camera specs, but the panel will apparently measure about 6.5-inches. And yeah, the notch will be waterdrop or the so-called minidrop.

This time around, Realme sides with Snapdragon. The processor’s name is for the while kept under the wraps. But, going by the leaks, we expect it to be SD665 coupled with 4 gigs of RAM. Since RealmeOS seems far, the software layer is likely Color OS 6.1 based on Android 9.

Although up until the official reveal, a little bit of skepticism is advised.
