Realme has recently expanded its 12 Number Series by introducing two new smartphones, the Realme 12 5G and Realme 12+ 5G. These mid-range devices are designed to provide a premium experience and impressive specifications at an affordable price point for the average Indian consumer. The Realme 12+ 5G boasts a sleek and premium design, available in two attractive shades. It also features an AMOLED display, a large battery, a fast chipset, and many other promising features on paper. However, the ultimate test lies in real-life usage. While we will provide a detailed review soon, the initial impressions of the smartphone should help address the questions users may have.

- 8GB RAM+128GB storage-Rs. 20,999

Realme 12+ 5G: Design and Build
The initial impression a user gets from a smartphone is largely influenced by its design. While most devices may appear similar from the front, it is the rear panel that truly captures attention. The Realme 12+ 5G excels in this aspect, featuring a vegan leather finish on the back and a design reminiscent of the Pro Models previously released. I had the opportunity to experience the pioneer green variant, and it exuded a premium feel right from the moment I held it in my hand. The back showcases a sizable circular camera island, and the vegan leather finish ensures that it remains free from dirt and smudges. Weighing under 200 grams, the phone is comfortable to hold for extended periods. Its flat and glossy frame further enhances the overall aesthetic of the device.
Realme 12+ 5G: Display
The Realme 12+ 5G features a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It comes with a 100% P3 color gamut and claims to have peak brightness levels of 2000 nits. Although the bezels are not as thin as the Pro Models, they are still of a decent size. The display offers bright and clear visuals and is visible under sunlight in outdoor conditions. The color accuracy and contrast ratio are impressive, and Widevine L1 certification guarantees Full HD content streaming on Netflix and other OTT platforms.

Realme 12+ 5G: HarDware and software
The Realme 12+ 5G runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset manufactured on a 6nm TSMC process. Paired with a Mali G68 GPU, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage, the device delivers efficient performance. I tested the 8GB RAM+256GB storage variant and found the chipset to be swift in handling everyday tasks. It smoothly ran around 15-18 apps simultaneously without any stuttering or lags when switching between them.
I also played COD for 20 minutes on the device and noticed that it did not heat up during the gaming session. More details on gaming performance will be covered in the review.
The Realme 12 Plus 5G comes with Realme UI 5 based on Android 14 out of the box. While it does have some bloatware, users can uninstall them based on their preferences. The UI offers a polished look with a variety of customization options. I have yet to explore features like File Dock, so stay tuned for more information on that.

Realme 12+ 5G: Camera Hardware
The Realme 12+ 5G features a triple camera setup on the rear, consisting of a 50MP Sony LYT-600 sensor with Optical Image Stabilization, an 8MP ultrawide angle lens, and a 2MP portrait sensor. On the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera. The images captured in daylight are vibrant, sharp, and full of details. However, the portrait mode doesn’t seem to be very effective. I am currently testing the camera in various lighting conditions and will provide an updated review once I have spent more time with the device. One interesting feature I appreciated is the watermark option, which also displays a color palette based on the photo.
Realme 12+ 5G: Battery Life and Charging
Realme 12+ 5G has a slim design and yet packs a 5000mAh battery under the hood. The battery easily lasts an entire day from morning to evening with moderate usage. Realme has bundled a 67W fast charging adapter that charges the device from 0 to 100% in 40 minutes, which is decent.
Conclusion
Realme 12+ 5G makes a strong initial impact with its sleek design, vibrant display, and speedy performance, all while boasting impressive battery life. Priced at under 25k, it appears to be a solid budget-friendly option. Although the camera and performance are still being put through their paces, the Sony LYT600 main sensor is already showing promise in enhancing photography.
