Chipsets maker, Qualcomm has announced its new Snapdragon 710 SoC to power the mid-range phones. It is first-in-line to Snapdragon 700-mobile platform series and falls somewhere in between premium Snapdragon 845 and SD 660 chipsets. The Snapdragon 710 integrates features and specifications that were earlier exclusive to SD 800-series.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 highlights:

  • Improvements in AI applications
  • The best part will be power efficiency. The SD 710 uses the same 10nm process as SD 845 but has lower clock speed.
  • Support up to 800Mbps download speeds
  • Has Kryo 360 cores (Cortex-A75 and Cortex-A55)
  • Features 4K HDR playback

Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Features

The Snapdragon 710 is the same chipset that Qualcomm showcased earlier this year at MWC. It is built on the 10nm architecture, same as its elder brother SD 845, and includes a multi-core AI engine and neural network processing for an improved AI performance than the Snapdragon 660 SoC.

The Snapdragon 710 also utilizes AI capabilities to effortlessly capture and share contextually-aware photos and videos, and personalize voice and speech patterns for more natural interaction.

Furthermore, it incorporates Spectra 250 ISP and Snapdragon X15 LTE modem for enhancements on camera front and connectivity, respectively, on the mid-range phones. The Qualcomm Spectra ISP is designed to deliver super resolutions with up to 32MP single ISP and 20MP dual ISP whereas the X15 LTE modem could boost download speed up to 800mbps.

And for display, the Snapdragon 710 supports 4K HDR playback for viewing HDR videos and apps. This is a new feature which is coming to processors other than the Snapdragon 800 SoC series. It also brings more brightness, wider color gamut, and color depth to the Snapdragon 710.

Due to enhancements to the Adreno 616 Visual Processing Subsystem architecture, Snapdragon 710-based devices can expect to see up to 40% reduction in power consumption for both gaming and 4K HDR video playback, as well as a 20% reduction in power consumption when streaming video, when compared to Snapdragon 660.

Additionally, the new Kryo 360 architecture, built on ARM Cortex technology, is optimized to support up to a 20% overall uplift in performance and with the latest Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology, users can get a 50% battery charge within 15 minutes.

You don’t have to wait long to experience the Snapdragon 710 in a smartphone. Qualcomm says that the first smartphone with the latest chipset should be out sometime in the second quarter of 2018, and Xiaomi could be the early trendsetter.
