Poco India today unveiled Poco M2 Reloaded in a series of tweets announcing specifications, price, and details. This is almost the same Poco M2 that was introduced last year but comes with lesser 4GB RAM and a reduced price of INR 9,499.

We are definitely not complaining. Considering the current state of affairs where phones at the bottom of the barrel are simultaneously getting expensive while cutting on features, the Poco M2 Reloaded strikes as a welcome additional option for consumers restricted by a 10K budget.

Rehashing phones is the new normal?

It’s not just Poco and not just the entry grade segment. Most brands are rehashing their old-timers across all price segments a lot more frequently this year.

To name a few from the top of our head, the OnePlus 9R is the OnePlus 8T in a new garb; the Realme 8 Pro and Realme 7 Pro have more than their fair share of similarities, the Samsung Galaxy M12 is the exact same as the Galaxy F12, and we also have the SD 865 powered Galaxy S20 FE 5G edition that supplants the nearly identical Exynos-powered 4G LTE version from last year.

The looming chip shortage could be one explanation for the trend, or perhaps it’s now an acceptable way of clearing unsold inventory. Or maybe a simpler way of keeping worthy contenders relevant for longer in the fast-changing smartphone landscape where phone life cycles have ludicrously shortened to a mere few weeks.

But we digress, let’s talk a bit more about the Poco M2 Reloaded.

Poco M2 Reloaded Features

The M2 Reloaded is powered by MediaTek Helio G80 chipset and comes in only one configuration with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The display has a water-drop notch, enjoys Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and has Full HD+ resolution, a rarity in affordable phones these days. There is also a massive 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging to look forward to.

Other than that, the software is still Android 10-based MIUI, a 13MP shooter leads the quad-camera pack on the rear (with a 5MP macro camera), there’s a dedicated microSD card slot, a side fingerprint sensor, and a Type-C port for charging and data transfer.
