Google’s Pixel 9 series brings a few AI features, one of which is the new Pixel Screenshots app. This app uses on-device AI, powered by Gemini Nano and the Tensor G4 on the Pixel 9, to help you better manage and interact with your screenshots. Let’s dive into this app and find out what it’s all about.
Processing Screenshots
When you first open the Pixel Screenshots app, you’ll be prompted to download the necessary AI model for on-device processing. Once set up, your screenshots will automatically be processed in the background when your device is idle.
If you want to process a screenshot immediately, just tap the photo and select “Process now.” This has to be done for every screenshot individually. However, I wouldn’t recommend doing this for more than 2-5 at a time (more on this later).
Screenshot Summaries
Once the screenshot is processed, the AI will then generate a title and a summary for it. You can select the text in the summary and copy it if you want.
Or, if you think the summary isn’t good enough, tap on three dots at the top, select Bad feedback, and share your feedback.
How to add a note in Pixel Screenshots?
If you scroll down further, you’ll see an option to add a note. Tap on the textbox and start typing.
You can also dictate the note by tapping on the microphone icon at the right. This note will be used to search your screenshot.
How to search a screenshot in Pixel Screenshots?
Searching through your screenshots is simple—just type or dictate your query, and the on-device AI will find the relevant screenshot. For instance, I asked, “find Lara?” and the app found the relevant screenshot.
Of course, I can also search for a location to get the results based on that location. Or, I can search the name of an app to get screenshots from that specific app only. The possibilities are endless.
How to create a screenshot Collection in Pixel Screenshots?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by a cluttered gallery, then Pixel Screenshots lets you organize your screenshots into Collections. Simply:
1. Tap on the + icon at the top.
2. Select the screenshots you want to add to the collection.
3. Then, give the collection a title, and finish by tapping the checkbox at the top right.

How to set screenshot reminders in Pixel Screenshots?
You can also set reminders within the Pixel Screenshots app. If a screenshot is related to a specific task, like shopping, you can select a date and time to get notified via a push notification.
All your reminders are also easy to find in the app. If you’ve set a reminder or multiple reminders in the app, all of them will appear at the top when you open Pixel Screenshots. Simply scroll horizontally to see the list of reminders.
You can also check your reminders by tapping the Reminder icon at the top left. You can sort all reminders by Upcoming and Past.
How to add a new screenshot to Pixel Screenshots?
Pixel Screenshots, contrary to what the name might suggest, isn’t just limited to screenshots. You can add any photo you like to the Pixel Screenshots. Here’s how:
1. Tap on the + icon at the bottom right.
2. Now, tap on Camera or Gallery.
3. Take a photo or select the photo that you want to add to the Pixel Screenshots app.
4. These added photos will be treated as screenshots in the app.
How to delete a screenshot from Pixel Screenshots?
And of course, you can also delete screenshots from the app. Follow the steps below:
1. Open the screenshot that you want to delete.
2. Tap the three dots at the top, and select Delete.
3. Tap on Delete to confirm.

When do the screenshots get processed?
From what I can tell, the screenshots are processed when your device is idle. Since all of this is done using an on-device model, it takes a lot of power to process these screenshots.
If you try to process several screenshots at once (I did that), you may notice your device heating up. In my tests with the regular Pixel 9, the device temperature reached 44°C after manually processing 40 screenshots. So, I’d suggest leaving the processing to happen in the background only.
Bottom line
Overall, the Pixel Screenshots app is a nifty tool that integrates AI to help you manage and search your screenshots efficiently. It’s currently exclusive to the Pixel 9 series, and it might remain exclusive for quite some time because the app relies on on-device AI. What are your thoughts on Pixel Screenshots? Let us know.
