Oppo K10 5G Review: Design

Oppo K10 5G is a phone with an impressive aesthetic look. The smartphone will catch your attention from afar because of its back panel which has a subtle glow to it. The Oppo K10 5G comes in Ocean Blue and Midnight Black colour variants and the one I got was Ocean Blue. I loved the colour as it is slightly different from the normal blue that is seen on many smartphones these days.

The smartphone weighs 190 grams and has a thickness of 7.99mm making it both sleek and lightweight to hold in hand. The Oppo K10 5G has a strong build quality and is easy to operate with one hand.

The back of the Oppo K10 has a small rectangular camera module on top that contains dual lenses along with an LED flash. The bottom has Oppo branding, while the rest of the backside is left idle. K10 5G has a rounded side frame with flat edges which makes the in-hand grip of the smartphone better. The right edge houses a power button while the left edge has volume rockers and a dual SIM tray. The bottom side has a USB Type-C port, speaker grille, microphone and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Talking about the front side, there is a 6.56-inch display with a dewdrop notch for the selfie camera at the top and bezels all around. While bezels at the top and bottom and thicker, the ones on the side are leaner. The best part about the design of Oppo K10 5G is the ability of its rear panel to avoid smudges. Even after holding the phone in hand for an hour, it did not smudge much. Even if there were slight smudges, they were not visible due to the finish of the device. The only drawback is that the Oppo K10 5G does include an IPX4 rating against water.

Oppo K10 5G Review: Display

The Oppo K10 5G sports a 6.56-inch LCD display panel that comes with HD+ resolution. The visuals on the Oppo K10 screen look bright, clear, and easily readable. It has a refresh rate of 90Hz which is a little low, considering the fact that most budget phones come with a 120Hz refresh rate these days. The difference is felt while scrolling and gaming as it is not as fluid as it is in a 120Hz panel. Especially in gaming, the low refresh rate sometimes kills your mood if it is not seamless in the middle of the game.

The side-mounted fingerprint sensor is quick and capable. It has a touch sampling rate of 240Hz which is good enough for us. The panel used here can deliver a peak brightness of 600nits which is decent but you might have to work hard while under direct sunlight. The display menu in the settings option has options to choose between light and dark modes, auto-brightness, eye comfort, video colour enhancer, font, display size, etc. The refresh rate is adaptive as you can choose between high and standard.

Oppo K10 5G Review: Battery

The Oppo K10 5G packs a huge 5000mAh battery that can last an entire day with moderate to high usage. My usage included calling, messaging, browsing the internet, social media, watching videos, using a camera, and listening to music. With this kind of usage, the battery lasted for around 12 hours easily. On days I played games for 1-2 hours along with normal usage, I had to charge the device in around 9-10 hours which was also pretty decent.

Moreover, the Oppo K10 5G comes with a 33W power adapter bundled inside the box, which means you don’t have to spend extra bucks buying a charger from the market. The 33W power adapter charged the phone from 0 to 100% in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The charging speed is decent as these days we see chargers that take 15-20 minutes to charge the devices. Reverse charging is also supported which is an added bonus.

The Battery Menu in Settings of the smartphone shows how much battery is left and for how much time can it last. There are options to switch on/off power saving mode and super power-saving mode. To optimize battery, options like turning off power-draining apps, turning off GPS, and changing refresh rate are also available. You can use them according to your convenience and need.

Oppo K10 5G Review: Camera

The Oppo K10 5G comes with a dual-camera setup at the back. It includes a 48MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. There is also an 8MP selfie camera at the front. The Camera UI is user-friendly with options like night, portrait, video, HDR, AI, and more visible when you open the camera. Clicking 3 dots on the top right corner shows settings, timer, and aspect ratio whereas clicking on ‘More’ by swiping left from the Photo option above the shutter shows modes like Pro, Extra HD, Pano, Slo-mo, Timelapse, and more.

Coming to the quality, the 48MP main camera clicks bright and funky pictures in daylight. The greens, browns, and whites look vivid and sharp. The pictures capture the sun’s hues well but the details could have been more. In the nighttime, the 48MP lens gives average clicks as they have noise and sometimes look grainy around the edges as well.

Talking about the depth sensor, shots taken with it lack detail. It has trouble locking focus on the subject and at times it fails to separate the subject from the background.

Talking about the 8MP selfie lens, it clicks sharp selfies in daylight. The color tones are close to natural and the human subject has been well focused on. There is no lack of details and the images don’ appear blurry even at the edges. The selfie camera performed better than I expected.

Oppo K10 5G Review: Performance

The Oppo K10 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor with is paired with 8GB RAM. Togeather they deliver fast and efficient performance with a smooth Multitasking experience. I manage to run apps quickly and the phone never lags or crashes even when multiple apps are running in the background. 128GB storage provides ample space to store whatever you like or need. The RAM can be expanded up to 5GB by RAM extension so if at any point you feel, the phone is lagging, increase its RAM.

Talking about gaming, games like Genshin Impact, Fortnite, and Modern Combat 5 which are heavy ran well but in lower frame rates and medium resolution. Running them in higher resolution with a high frame rate leads to stuttering and heating up of the device. Thermal performance is otherwise ok as the device did not heat up while charging or benchmark tests.

For security and privacy, there are options of lock screen password, face unlocks, fingerprint lock, and privacy password to choose from. The call quality is good as even in low signal strength, the voice of the caller as well as the receiver are audible to each other and the call never drops or hangs.

The Oppo K10 5G has dual stereo speakers which are loud and give a sound with the correct amount of bass. There is depth in the audio. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack as well for those who still want to listen to the old-fashioned way.

Coming to the software part, Oppo K10 5G runs Android 12 with Color OS 12.1 skin on top. The UI is colourful and neat and there are options for customizations and personalization as well. You can change wallpapers, themes, style, and colour of app icons on the screen, font and display size, colours, and more to make your experience more colourful and playful. Although there were not many ads, there was loads of bloatware on the device.

The 3rd party apps like Byjus, Clone Phone, Josh, Linked in, Moj, Netflix, Phonepe, and Snapchat were all pre-installed and had to be removed manually if you don’t need them. This is something that most brands give on their UIs these days. The companies should work towards providing a clean UI as Motorola does. 5G connectivity is available but can’t be tested as it hasn’t been rolled out in the country as of now.

Oppo K10 5G Review Verdict: Should you buy it?

The Oppo K10 5G is a mid-range device that has an attractive design, good battery life, a fast processor, and decent gaming performance. On the downside, it has a low refresh rate, bloatware in UI, and slow charging speed, its camera performance is ok. If you want a smartphone that looks and feels good and performs decently, Oppo K10 5G can be your choice in this 20k segment.

Overall, this Oppo K10 5g smartphone is looking great! I think that the brand has done a good job by installing a 5000 mAh battery, Mediatek d810 chip, dual-camera, etc.
