Ever since their genesis, Oneplus phones have taken the smartphone world by storm with their flagship killing specs and price tag. They have a cult following and are able to draw large sales too. The leading research firm Counterpoint finds this to be true. Their Market Monitor Service Data for Q4 2018 reports Oneplus as the leader for three consecutive quarters in 2018. Oneplus holds a 36% market share with two of its phones atop. Needless to say, they are the Oneplus 6 and Oneplus 6T. If it piques your interest, the former did the better sales.

As Oneplus conquered the market, Apple and Samsung’s market share stood at 30% and 26% respectively. Noticeably, OnePlus was also the fastest growing premium smartphone brand annually, showcasing an 85% YoY growth. During Q4, the market share gap among Oneplus and its nearest competitor widened, which is now at 10%.

Karn Chauhan, Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research, said, “OnePlus recorded its highest ever shipments in a single quarter to lead the premium smartphone segment for three successive quarters. Additionally, the success of OnePlus drove overall premium smartphone shipments to a record number in a single year. This was driven by strong demand of its latest OnePlus 6T during the festive season. The momentum continues even after the festive season due to strong word of mouth and product feedback from the end users. Its latest expansion into the offline space along with Experience Stores will help it to reach potential user base in coming quarters.”

Overall, the premium segment jumped by 8% YoY for the full year 2018 and 16% YoY for Q4 2018. The affordable premium segment in the ₹30,000-₹40,000 bracket gained the major traction in 2018.

Oneplus’s feat in sales is quite impressive as it beats Samsung, which had a narrowly higher shipment. Though Samsung led the India premium market for 2018, OnePlus breezed ahead in Q4 2018.

Oneplus 6T, the latest offspring from Oneplus family is now available for general sales across all channels including oneplus.in, Amazon.in, Reliance Digital outlets, Croma outlets, and all OnePlus exclusive offline stores.

Following the Counterpoint report, OnePlus took a jibe at Apple via its Twitter handle. The post taunts Apple’s Siri with a query stating: “Hey Siri, which is India’s No.1 Premium Smartphone?” Oneplus audaciously captioned the post: “iDare”. Gutsy!

This is Oneplus sprinkling salt on the burn as Apple’s iPhone’s see a 15 percent sales slump in past quarter. We will see how Twitteratti and Apple themselves react to this shot.
