Every year, we get our hands on new OnePlus flagship phones with the latest chipsets in the buzz. Upcoming OnePlus 13 packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. Although this isn’t a surprising move, it is still worth a relief given its rival Samsung appears to change its chipset strategy every year.
According to tipster Smart Pikachu over Weibo (China’s social network), the OnePlus 13 will feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. As usual, the phone should arrive in China later this year followed by its global launch in early 2025.
What’s interesting is the fact that the OnePlus 13 could become the first phone to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. Last year, we saw the Xiaomi 14 Pro taking the lead, becoming the first to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 when it arrived in China last year.
According to a previous report, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is clocked at a max of 4.3GHz thanks to its custom Oryon cores. This is where Qualcomm will officially leave ARM-based chips for its custom Oryon chip with no efficiency cores in the mix. The chipset is expected to bring in improved performance although that remains to be seen. There are skeptics that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC could end up with issues such as Dimensity 8300 SoC that excluded efficiency cores altogether.
OnePlus 13 is reportedly being tested with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC as a prototype version. There are also reports that OnePlus could change the design of its upcoming flagship although that remains to be confirmed.
OnePlus 13 will be accompanied by OnePlus Ace 3V. It is slated to feature a Snapdragon 7 series chipset paired with a 1.5K display, a 5500mAh battery plus a 100W fast charging tech.
