The OnePlus 12 is officially available in China and awaiting its global launch in January. Well, the phone is already being tested by people in every way imaginable including the latest from the WekiHome team where they performed a OnePlus 12 teardown revealing all the complex structures, the ginormous 9140mm2 vapor chamber, and other key components embedded in the OP12.

OnePlus 12 Teardown

First up, I would say the OnePlus 12 is one of the best-designed phones for a teardown. The video starts by removing the SIM tray and then the back glass that is glued with the frame using adhesive. Heating it and prying it up gives away the first-ever look on the insides revealing a rather three-piece plastic cover meant to keep all the components neat.

The first layer packs in the NFC antenna and wireless charging pad the latter makes its comeback on OnePlus phones after a while. There’s also ambient light and LED flash tucked under the camera bump that can be removed as well. The first plastic layer sports a thin heat dissipation film that keeps the phone’s temperature in check along with other components in its cooling system.

Almost everything is attached to the motherboard using pogo pin connectors that make it easy to disassemble. The next is the three camera sensors at the back which comprise a 50MP Sony LYT-808 dual-layer sensor with OIS, a 70mm equivalent 64MP OV64B telephoto periscope sensor with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide.

Thanks to the color adjustments by Hasselblad and algorithms designed by OnePlus and Sony, the OnePlus 12 stands out with its chic and impressive photography. We have seen low-light photography samples from the OnePlus 12 and truth be told, these are impeccably detailed as well. The normal daytime shots are detailed, vivid, and colorful as well.

Moving on, the motherboard uses rubber rings to protect it from elements. Flip the motherboard and you’ll see a heat-dissipation copper coil along with a thermal paste that protects the SoC from excessive heat. A bit of prying reveals the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, the SK Hynix LPDDR5X RAM, and Samsung UFS 4.0. A PixelWorks’ PX8768 independent graphics chip is embedded along with Wi-Fi, BT, and RF modem among others.

The sub-board at the bottom is attached to the frame using screws revealing the bottom speaker along with the microphone, the SIM card slot, a Type-C port, and dustproof and waterproof protection abiding by the IP65 rating.

OnePlus is using a powerful X-axis linear motor which is touted to be a year ahead of its rivals. The bionic vibration motor Turbo is almost the same in terms of performance compared to last year’s. Next, we have a dual-cell single-interface design for the battery with a quick-release design making it easier for people to replace the batteries without forcefully yanking the batteries off the board.

Finally, it’s the screen and its dismantling. As usual, it is connected to the panel using an adhesive that can be removed easily. An ultra-thin fingerprint scanner sits around the 2/3rd segment of the device.

Peel off the thin heat dissipation film and you get the first glance at its ginormous multi-layered 9140mm2 vapor chamber. Upon testing, the VC does manage to bring down the temperature considerably with reduced power consumption and improved temperature efficacy. The phone’s frame is made up of aluminum alloy while the back uses glass and that completes the teardown.
