OnePlus 11 Vs OnePlus 12: Design

When we look at the OnePlus 12 for the first time, it seems almost similar to the OnePlus 11. However, on looking closely, you will realize that the OnePlus 12 is slightly larger than its predecessor as its dimensions are 164.3×75.8×9.15 while the OnePlus 11 measures 163.1×74.1×8.53mm. It has a 6.8-inch display in comparison to OnePlus 11 having a 6.7-inch panel. Since the size has increased, the device has gotten bulkier as it now weighs 220 grams while OnePlus 11 weighs 205 grams.

Otherwise, the design is familiar with a round camera module at the back but now the camera ring is surrounded by a metal ring resembling a luxury watch. The position of functionalities has also been tweaked with the power and volume buttons both on the right side now and the alert slider on the left (the OnePlus 11 has a volume button on the left and an alert slider on the right).

The display protection has gotten tougher with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an official IP65 rating on the OnePlus 12. OnePlus 11 had an IP64 rating and Gorilla Glass 7.

Since the size has been increased, the display has also gotten bigger. While the OnePlus 11 had a 6.7-inch display, the OnePlus 12 has a 6.8-inch panel. The global brightness level has been doubled from 800 nits on the OnePlus 11 to 1600 nits on the OnePlus 12. Peak brightness has increased from 1300 nits on OnePlus 11 to 4500 nits on OnePlus 12.

OnePlus 11 Vs OnePlus 12: Camera

OnePlus 12 also has a triple camera setup like the OnePlus 11 but the quality of lenses has improved. OnePlus 12 sports a new Sony LYT-808 sensor which is 2nd in quality to larger 1-inch Sony sensors.

The ultrawide camera has the same 48MP lens with a 14mm focal length and f/2.2 aperture.

The new addition is the 3x zoom periscope camera. It is a 64MP sensor with 3x zoom natively, 6x zoom via sensor cropping, and a fast aperture of f/2.6 which is made for low-light photos.

The physical design of the camera system has changed as well with a metal ring around the cameras, resembling a luxury watch.

OnePlus 11 Vs OnePlus 12: Chipset & Software

Chipset has received an upgrade as well. OnePlus 11 was powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC while OnePlus 12 is powered by the latest and more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Benchmark results for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 claim the chipset will perform much better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It has received 2242 single-core points in the Geekbench test as opposed to the 1510 obtained by OnePlus 11. 3D Mark Extreme test unveils a score of 3692 for the OnePlus 12 in comparison to 1739 for the OnePlus 11.

Last year, OnePlus promised 4 years of software updates for the OnePlus 11, and this time it remains the same. OnePlus 12 is available at a global level but it is better to opt for the Indian version as 5G bands will be different than global ones.

OnePlus 11 Vs OnePlus 12: RAM & Storage

Storage configuration has also received a boost. OnePlus 11 comes with up to 16GB RAM and up to 256GB storage, while OnePlus 12 comes with up to 16GB RAM and up to 512GB onboard storage. This means better multitasking, faster speed, and more space to store data.

OnePlus 11 Vs OnePlus 12: Battery

The battery has also gotten bigger. OnePlus 11 had a 5000mAh battery but OnePlus 12 draws juice from a massive 5400mAh battery.

As for charging support, OnePlus 12 now comes with fast 50W wireless charging support which wasn’t available on OnePlus 11. However, wired fast charging capability remains the same at 80W.

OnePlus 11 Vs OnePlus 12: Price

Price Comparison

OnePlus 11 Vs OnePlus 12: Conclusion

Before 2023 it seemed as if OnePlus was on the verge of losing its identity as a premium smartphone brand. However, in the last 2 years, the brand has sincerely tried to rediscover itself and the result is smartphones like the OnePlus 11, the OnePlus 12, and the affordable ‘R’ series.

Whether one should buy a year-old OnePlus 11 (Which is currently available for Rs. 56,999) or wait for the OnePlus 12 to go on sale, depends on what the user expects from his/her device. If you want more storage, a better chipset, and a larger battery, the OnePlus 12 would be a better choice but if the camera is your main requirement, the OnePlus 11 is a wiser choice as it costs approximately Rs. 8000 less than OnePlus 12.
