Nokia Is Allegedly Working On A Smart Assistant ‘Viki’

Nokia’s return to the smartphone game with a mid-range offering was better received than what we had expected. People naturally have a soft corner for the brand name which used to be synonymous with a ‘mobile phone’ in India before things went haywire. Yes, we have all used Nokia phones in the past and were, at some point in time, duly impressed by their durability and battery backups.

But if you aren’t all that sentimental, you might be wondering how the new Nokia 6 is different from a throng of Android options that already exist? Well, Viki: the new Smart AI assistant that Nokia is working on, could be a differentiating factor.

The first thing that comes to mind is the affable, smart robotic assistant of the same name from the Sitcom Small Wonder that we grew up watching. But we digress.

According to a report, Nokia recently filled an application for protecting the trademark Viki. The description reads as follows:

“Software for the creation and monitoring of mobile and web asssistants working with digital knowledge and combining all data sources into a single chat and voice-based interface. ”

Now that veritably hints at a Google Now, Siri or Alexa challenger. If done right, this could chalk out favorably for Nokia in the long run. At the same time, it can’t be neglected that the services like Google Now are already several generations ahead and benefit from the vast ecosystem support and enormous user data that they can tap into.

With the world going digital, Google and many others are betting big on voice commands and they are probably even right. What do you thing? Nokia is late to the party once again. Or is the AI assistant party just getting started?
