TL; DR
  • Digital Chat Station says some brands are testing an “ultra-large cup” camera setup with three big sensors: a 200MP main, a 200MP telephoto, and a 100MP front camera.
  • The 100MP selfie camera reportedly uses a custom small-pixel sensor, likely built to fit modern punch-hole designs while still pushing extreme resolution.
  • DCS himself questions it with “Is there demand for this?!”, suggesting even he thinks a 100MP selfie camera might be overkill.

Digital Chat Station has posted a new camera leak on Weibo, and it suggests the megapixel race is about to hit the front camera too. In his post, he says some manufacturers are currently testing a next-generation “ultra-large cup” camera design that uses three high-resolution sensors at once: a 200MP main camera, a 200MP telephoto camera, and a 100MP front-facing camera.

The leak does not name which companies are working on it, but the most obvious candidates are the Chinese brands that already lead the dual 200MP push in flagship phones, especially OPPO, vivo, and Xiaomi. This also matches the recent wave of rumors around dual 200 MP rear setups across upcoming Pro and Ultra models.

DCS says that the 100MP selfie camera uses a “custom” sensor with small pixels. Selfie modules have limited space, so brands typically stick to 32MP or 50MP sensors. A small-pixel 100MP sensor could let brands advertise huge resolution while still fitting into a punch-hole cutout.

DCS doesn’t sound fully convinced, though. He ends the post with: “Is there demand for this?!” which reads like even he sees this as a spec-chasing move unless brands can make it feel actually useful.
