TL; DR
  • Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has claimed that the overhauled Siri (along with Apple’s new App Intents feature) could ship in Spring 2026 (likely between March and May 2026).
  • Apple’s engineers are struggling to ensure that the system (likely including the new App Intents feature that enables the deep Siri integration and unlocks the cross-app functionality) works with a good number of apps.
  • These might include scenarios where Siri is supposed to handle medical or health-related information, such as logging symptoms, managing medications, or providing health advice.

First announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2024, the next-generation Siri promised to be one of the most advanced AI-based voice assistants. However, Apple couldn’t deliver on the promises due to various roadblocks (internal organizational changes) and concerns (related to responses about sensitive information).

The delay has also made the company face several lawsuits, including those from its shareholders and consumers, which led the company to withdraw certain advertisements about Siri’s unavailable capabilities. Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has claimed that the overhauled Siri (along with Apple’s new App Intents feature) could ship in Spring 2026 (likely between March and May 2026).

Primary Concerns Regarding Siri’s Overhaul

Per the latest Power On newsletter, Apple’s engineers are struggling to ensure that the system (likely including the new App Intents feature that enables the deep Siri integration and unlocks the cross-app functionality) works with a good number of apps, and, more importantly, “is accurate enough to handle high-stakes scenarios.

Although the report doesn’t elaborate on what exactly the “high-stakes scenarios” are, I believe it is referring to situations where precision, accuracy, and reliability are critical (in a manner that a slight mistake can incur substantial damage to the user, and, along the way, make Apple responsible for it).

These might include scenarios where Siri is supposed to handle medical or health-related information, such as logging symptoms, managing medications, or providing health advice. Further, it could also include situations where Siri might have to execute financial transactions or handle sensitive personal information.

A failure in accuracy, particularly in these scenarios, could lead to incorrect health management, misdiagnosis, monetary loss, security breaches, and privacy violations, and ultimately, it will all be Apple’s to bear. As the newsletter reads, the company is worried about “the software failing in categories where precision is non-negotiable, like in health or banking apps.

For now, Apple is working with several other companies to test how the Siri overhaul (with the new App Intents functionality) works before rolling it out to general users. Hopefully, we’ll get to see it in action by Spring 2026.

Next-Generation Siri Should Work With These Apps

Among the companies are some known names, such as Uber, Amazon, YouTube, and WhatsApp. Gurman claims that Apple is working with these companies to develop the next-generation Siri and the new App Intents functionality. In other words, it could be these applications that support the on-screen awareness and in-app actions at the launch (besides system apps).

The list of apps includes eight names: Amazon, AllTrails, Facebook, Temu, Threads, Uber, WhatsApp, and YouTube. Interestingly, Apple has also tested Siri with certain video games, but exactly what it entails and what could possibly be the use cases is something we’re not aware of at the moment.

SmartPrix’s Take On Delayed Siri And Spring 2026 Launch

Historically, Apple has been an innovation leader. Whether it comes to industry-leading security, releasing trend-setting hardware designs, or offering unmatched hardware-software optimization. However, in the current scenario, the company is facing a critical challenge of keeping up with competitors such as Samsung and Google in the AI voice assistant space.

The Korean tech giant Samsung is aggressively scaling up its Galaxy AI ecosystem, aiming to reach 400 million devices in 2025, with deeper integration of Google’s advanced AI models. Google, on the other hand, is making Gemini AI a universally available product. In such a scenario, Apple must accelerate the development of next-generation Siri and deploy it without failure.
