Netflix has started a new ‘Mobile+’ plan at an entry level price as a pilot program in India. The company is aiming to increase its subscriber base in the country through this test plan.

The new ‘Mobile+’ plan is already listed on the Netflix official page at a price of Rs. 299 per month. The subscription will enable the user to watch movies and shows in HD resolution of 1080p. As far as the number of devices is concerned, online streaming will be available on mobile, tablet, and computer one at a time.

Previously, i.e., a couple of years back, Netflix had launched its most inexpensive plan at the time dubbed ‘Mobile’ priced Rs 199 a month. However, it was limited to mobile-only and supported only the standard definition at 480p resolution. Netflix had started the Mobile plan as a test and garnered a good response in terms of increasing its subscribers.

Commenting on the new plan, the company’s spokesperson told ET, “We launched the mobile plan in India to make it easier for anyone with a smartphone to enjoy Netflix. We want to see if members like the added choice Mobile+ brings. We’ll only roll it out long-term if they do.”

The statement concludes that the Netflix Mobile+ plan will be in a test phase and as of now, it will be visible to select users only. The company will continue the new plan if it responds well in the expansion of its user base. Being one of the costliest streaming services in India, Netflix is continuously testing new strategies to grow its subscriber base in the country.
