A few days back, Netflix had announced about a mobile-only plan for the Indian streaming landscape. After months of testing, the company has officially launched it in India. And it is priced at Rs. 199 a month. So as expected it is cheaper than the prevailing basic plan. So, what’s new and what’s the catch? Let’s find out.
Netflix Mobile-Only Plan features
Before getting into the differences with the basic plan, let’s understand what the new plan brings to the table.
Under this new plan, you will be able to binge to your heart’s content on one smartphone (or tablet) “Only”. To be precise, you can’t watch on television, PC or laptop.
It goes without saying that you get to stream in SD quality only. Further, it features one concurrent stream only, and streaming is available on tablets as well.
Netflix knows the impending threat from streaming platforms like Disney Plus, Apple TV+ and WarnerMedia’s HBO Max rushing to eat away its subscriber pie. Then there are the incumbents like Amazon Prime, Hotstar and the likes. In comparison, Hotstar costs you Rs. 299 per month, while Amazon Prime membership (including video and music streaming services) is priced at Rs. 129 per month.
Speaking about the launch, Mr. Ajay Arora, Director, Product Innovation, Netflix says, “Our members in India watch more on their mobiles than members anywhere else in the world – and they love to download our shows and films. We believe this new plan will make Netflix even more accessible and better suit for people who like to watch on their smartphones or tablets – both on the go and at home.”
So now that you know what it offers, let’s compare it with the brand’s other plans: Basic at Rs. 499 per month, Standard at Rs. 649 and finally Premium tier at Rs. 799 (all monthly charges).
