The Redmond-giant surprisingly unveiled a bunch of products without much pomp and show. The newly announced products include Surface Go 2 tablet, Surface Book 3 laptop, Surface Headphones 2, Surface Earbuds, and a few other accessories. They are marketed to folks who are “working remotely”.

Let’s glance over the newcomers one by one.

Microsoft Surface Go 2

Surface Go 2 sports a 10.5-inch FHD+ screen with 10 point multi-touch response. It shares the same chassis as its predecessor. That is a magnesium body with an integrated kickstand. It weighs about 553g without a keyboard cover.

The periphery includes one USB Type-C port, Microsoft’s proprietary Surface Connector for charging and accessories, a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD card slot, and dual “studio” microphones.

You get a 5-megapixel webcam that features Windows Hello face authentication.

Inside, the Go 2 bears either an 8th Gen Intel Core M processor (top-end) or an Intel Pentium Gold processor.

The high-end model bags 8GB of RAM with a 128GB SSD, while the base-variant carries 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage.

Microsoft advertises an improved battery life and up to 64 percent snappier performance on the top-tier model.

Microsoft Surface Book 3

Microsoft Surface Book 3 is a detachable 2-in-1 convertible that comes in two display sizes viz. 13.5-inch and 15-inch. The 13.5-inch model loads up to 1.64kg while the 15-inch model weighs 1.9kg, which includes the keyboard base and detachable tablet.

The surface of the surface houses two USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A ports, one USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C port, two Surface Connect ports, an SDXC card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Internally, the Surface Book 3 13.5-inch unit packs up to 10th gen Intel Core i7. It supports discrete NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 with Max-Q Design w/4GB GDDR5 graphics memory. Further, the 15-inch model comes with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti with Max-Q Design w/6GB GDDR6 graphics memory.

The company claims up to 50 percent better performance than its precursors. On the battery front, the bigger model can deliver up to 17.5 hours of juice backed by better power efficiency in standby.

Book 3 has a 5MP front camera and an 8MP rear camera along with far-field stereo microphones and a fully backlit keyboard.

Microsoft Surface Headphones 2

This new headphone is equipped with a 40 mm Free Edge driver. It has improved sound quality and adjustable 13 levels of ambient active noise cancellation.

Then there are things like up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge, an hour-long juice with a five-minute top-up, interactive on-ear dial that adjusts volume, and surrounding noise cancellation.

Microsoft Surface Earbuds

This new TWS pair is running on a 13.6 mm driver. It presents SBC and aptX codec support. There is IPX4 water resistance.

You get touch, tap, swipe, and voice-based multi-functioning interface for controlling everything from Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint diction, to device smart assistant and Spotify.

They claim around 24 hours worth of battery life in total including the earbuds and charging case. Of this, the earbuds cover up to eight hours of runtime. Plug-in for about 10 minutes to gain up to one hour of playback.

Price & Availability

  • Surface Go 2’s base model is priced starting at $399.99 (around Rs. 30,500) and the high-end model is priced at $629 (about Rs. 47,970) or optionally $729 (approx. Rs. 55,595) with integrated LTE. Moreover, the Surface Type Covers come in multiple colors starting at $99 (about Rs. 7,550). It hits markets such as the US, Canada, UK, Japan, Australia, and other European markets. Indian availability isn’t revealed yet.
  • Surface Book 3’s low-end model (w/ i5 processor) starts at $1,599 (about Rs. 1,21,940) The 15-inch version, on the other hand, hits the store at $3,399 (approx. Rs. 2,59,200). Book 3 will go on sale globally starting late May.
  • Surface Headphone 2 will be out in black or platinum editions priced at $249 (somewhere around Rs. 18,990) starting May 12.
  • Surface Earbuds will be available in single Glacier color. They will be out for purchase from May 12 priced at $199 (about Rs. 15,175).
