Microsoft unveiled Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL at a staged event in New York today. Alongside these two Lumia phones, Microsoft also introduced Surface Pro 4, Surface Book, and Microsoft Band 2 at the event.
With these two new flagship phone Microsoft has tried to combust dying spirit of Windows-based phones. The Redmond giant is banking upon its latest Windows 10 Mobile platform for these two smartphones. With Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL Microsoft is trying establish is Windows 10 mobile platform as a potent ecosystem, spanning across all categories of devices. With Windows 10 mobile, Microsoft has finally taken a right step forward.
These two phones carry some impressive hardware under their hood. Microsoft has picked arguably best SoC manufacturer for chipsets powering these devices. The new Lumias sport an adaptive antenna tech that ensures best possible network connectivity at every level. Microsoft at its event also mentioned its tablet class liquid cooling technology. At the event Microsoft’s Panos Panay, also introduced a new ‘Glance Screen technology’ that allows easy access to all the necessary information.
The Redmond giant also integrated Windows Hello biometric system these new phone which will unlock phone using front-facing sensor.
The most interesting thing about these new Lumia smartphones is Continuum which is essentially experiencing a PC like experience powered by Windows 10 handsets, using a Microsoft Display Dock. However, Continuum has some limitations. It is only compatible with universal Windows apps presently. Now if you own either of two phones, you can connect your phone to a monitor to directly use it as a full-fledged Windows 10 PC, isn’t that cool?
