After launching the bigwigs Lumia 950XL and 950 at a studded event last month, Microsoft has announced it’s more affordable Lumia 550 in India priced at Rs. 9,399. The Windows 10 phone will be available in Glossy White and Matte Black variants starting from December 23.
The Lumia 550 is now the cheapest Microsoft smartphone which is running on latest Windows 10 OS. However, Lumia 550 will miss some prominent features of Windows 10 like Continuum and Windows Hello, which as of now company has reserved for its flagship devices. Continuum lets users use their phone as the full PC by just connecting a display through small connector hub. On the other hand, Windows Hello is a security feature equipped with iris scan, which Microsoft showcased with the 950’s twins.
Despite missing out aforementioned features, the Lumia 550 offers Cortana Digital Voice Assistance, Microsoft Edge Browser, Updated Outlook mail, Glance Screen, integrated One Drive and Microsoft Office.
In terms of hardware, the Lumia 550 sports a 4.7-inch 720P display with a pixel density of 315ppi. Under the hood, it gets a 1.1 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset accompanied by Adreno 304 GPU and 1GB of RAM. It has 8GB of onboard storage which can be bumped up to 200 GB via microSD card. Unlike the two Lumia 950’s, it only supports single Micro-SIM.
The smartphone boasts of a 5-megapixel autofocus primary shooter with a f/2.4 wide aperture, LED flash and HD video recording capabilities. On the front, it gets a 2-megapixel sensor with a wide f/2.8 aperture for capturing selfies and video chat. Microsoft has gone with the Micro-USB port for Lumia 550 instead of USB type-C.
