TL; DR
  • Mercedes-Benz GLA debuts as a fully electric model for the first time, offering up to 657 km WLTP range on the GLA 250+.
  • 800V architecture enables 320 kW DC fast charging, adding 270 km of range in 10 minutes.
  • GLA has grown to 4,565mm with a 410-liter boot; a mild-hybrid petrol version arrives in 2027.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the third-generation GLA. For the first time in the nameplate’s history, it’s available as a fully electric model. Built on the brand’s new MMA platform, the GLA is bigger, more tech-loaded, and quicker to charge than anything wearing the Mercedes-Benz badge before.

New Mercedes-Benz GLA: What’s Changed?

The new GLA measures 4,565mm, 153mm longer than before, with a 61mm longer wheelbase at 2,790mm. Boot space stands at 410 liters, and the electric version adds a 107-liter frunk, which is a first for the GLA.

The electric GLA arrives in three variants: GLA 250, GLA 250+, and GLA 350 4MATIC.

The entry-level GLA 250 uses a 58 kWh LFP battery and provides a WLTP range of up to 447 km, while the GLA 250+ and dual-motor GLA 350 4MATIC step up to an 85 kWh NMC pack. For those wondering, the 250+ claims up to 657 km of electric-only range.

The GLA 350 4MATIC combines 354 hp and 515 Nm with all-wheel drive and hits 0-100 km/h in a claimed 5.4 seconds (which, if you ask me, is quite fast). The new 800V architecture supports 320 kW DC fast charging and adds up to 270 km of range in just 10 minutes (provided buyers stop at the right charger), alongside 22 kW AC charging.

A mild-hybrid petrol version, using a new 1.5-liter turbo engine with a 48V system and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, is also confirmed for 2027.

Mercedes currently sells the outgoing GLA in India from Rs 51.80 lakh with petrol and diesel engines only; there’s no confirmed timeline yet for the electric or hybrid versions to arrive locally.

Given how aggressively Indian luxury buyers have taken to EVs, including brands like BMW and Audi recently, I’d be surprised if Mercedes waits too long to bring at least the GLA 250+ here.
