MediaTek Helio G70 SoC with HyperEngine Game Technology Announced for Mid-range Phones

0

MediaTek has brought out a new chipset under its ‘G’ series that will cater to mid-range handsets. The chip named G70 is the second in line to the G90T chipset launched last year. MediaTek emboldens the gaming competence of the new chip. As such the new MediaTek HyperEngine Game Technology gets a due mention on the announcement page.

Let’s breakdown what does the new silicon packs and the benefits extolled by the gaming engine.

MediaTek Helio G70 SoC

At the core, the Helio G70 chip subsumes Arm Cortex-A75 performance CPUs clocking up to 2GHz, combined with six Cortex-A55 efficiency processors arranged in a single, octa-core structure. The cores share a large L3 cache plus up to 8GB LPDDR4X memory.

The gaming is propelled by an Arm Mali-G52 GPU ticking up to 820MHz and MediaTek’s CorePilot that manages compute resources. This is bolstered by MediaTek HyperEngine Game Technology.

Here’s how it accelerates the gameplay speeds –

  • Intelligent prediction of Wi-Fi & LTE concurrency triggers in just 13 milliseconds
  • A faster response between smartphone and cell-tower
  • Simply defer calls while in-game without the connection dropping for a moment

And here’s how it handles resource allocation –

  • Intelligent, dynamic management of CPU, GPU, and memory
  • Smoother performance in heavy-loading game engines, demanding scenes and intense gameplay
  • Enhanced power efficiency for even longer gameplay

MediaTek claims to have enhanced the power usage and performance of VoW (voice on wakeup) used for smart assistants.

Speaking of smart, the AI’s role in various aspects of smartphone users such as object recognition, photo album, scene detection, background removal, and Bokeh-shot enhancements.

This also broadens the camera possibilities including wide-angle, telescopic, macro or other lenses and more secure facial recognition. It can support two camera configurations – a solo 48MP camera or up to 16MP + 16MP duo. The G70 also brings on board a dedicated depth engine, Camera Control Unit (CCU), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) technology that should benefit video panning and ultra-fast recording (up to 240fps).
G70 SoC also asserts improvements in connectivity on both performance and power efficiency fronts. And among other things, the display resolution can go up to 1080 x 2520 pixels resolution.
