Maruti Suzuki Remains Market Leader As Exports Grow, Domestic Sales Remain Similar

Maruti Suzuki is the market leader by a margin. The brand sells more cars than some of the next top brands combined. Last month, in February, Maruti Suzuki sold 2,13,995 cars in total, registering a healthy growth over the 1,99,400 units sold in February last year (2025). Here, the domestic sales for passenger vehicles stood at 1,61,000 units last month, which is higher than the 1,60,791 number from the same month last year.

As compared to last month, which is January 2026, Maruti Suzuki saw a slight drop in sales figures. Last month, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,74,529 units domestically. Out of the 2,13,995 total sales that Maruti Suzuki has reported for last month, the company sold 1,61,000 cars locally, and exports amounted to 39,155 units. Further, as part of their joint venture, Maruti Suzuki also sold 10,710 cars to Toyota, and light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales stood at 3,130 units in February 2026. This is a growth of 14,595 units or 7.32 percent as compared to last year.

Hatchbacks Are A Declining Market

Among these sales figures, the mini segment which consists of cars like the Maruti Suzuki Alto or the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso recorded a sale of 10,238 units. The compact hatchback segment which consists of products like the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Swift, Ignis, WagonR, and the likes, posted 66,386 unit sales, which is lower than the 72,942 number from last year. Combined, the mini and compact segment saw a sale of 76,624 units which is a slight drop as compared to 83,168 units sold in February last year.

SUVs See Healthy Growth

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara launch in India

Coming to the utility segment, which includes all sub-4 meter and C-segment SUVs from Maruti. Here, the portfolio includes cars like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Ertiga, e-Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Victoris, and Maruti Suzuki XL6. These cars resulted in total sales of 72,756 units in February 2026, which is up from the last year’s figure of 65,033 units from last year. The utility segment remains to be the primary volume driver for Maruti Suzuki.

Finally, the van category only includes the Maruti Suzuki Eeco which recorded a sale of 11,620 units, slightly higher than last year’s number of 11,493 Eeco’s sold. After Eeco, LCV (Super Carry) sales were at 3,130 units, which is up from 2,710 units from last year.

This brings Maruti Suzuki’s total domestic sales to a total of 1,64,130 units, which is a slight gain from last year’s sale of 1,63,501 units in February 2025. Add to that the units shipped to Toyota as part of the Maruti – Toyota joint venture, and exports which stood at 10,710 units and 39,155 units, respectively.
