Vivo or most Chinese brands for that matter, don’t bother much with Android version upgrades. If you own a Vivo phone, you must be receiving frequent bug fix and feature updates, but not the version updates.

Vivo has now announced its plans for Android Oreo update, and the list is quite limited.

Vivo phones that will be updated to Android Oreo

  1. Vivo X20
  2. Vivo X20 Plus
  3. Vivo 9Xs
  4. Vivo Xplay6
  5. Vivo X9
  6. Vivo X9 Plus
  7. Vivo X9s Plus.

As you can notice, most of these are flagship phones and the models that Vivo launched in India aren’t on the list. So, if you have been waiting for Android Oreo update on Vivo V5-series or on V7-series, chances are slim at best.

For the listed models, Vivo hasn’t mentioned any time frame for the updates.

As for upcoming Vivo phones, the Android Oreo should be standard after April 2018 and it’s likely to come with a new version of Funtouch OS build on top – one that should expectedly be passed on to a broader range of devices.

What will you be missing without Android Oreo?

Well, star Oreo highlights include Picture-in-picture mode that lets you zoom out of apps without breaking continuity, Notification channels that give access to granular control over app notifications, and Auto-Fill API that now works across apps. Besides, there is support for certain oreo-exclusive ‘Go’ (and other) apps, and several background enhancements and optimizations that Google introduced with Android Oreo.
