Eminem, aka, Rap God dropped his new music video titled Godzilla, a track from his latest album – ‘Music to be murdered by’. In the video, a lady is seen using the dual screens of LG V60 ThinQ. That’s not it! Lil Yachty’s latest music video ft. Drake titled Oprah’s Bank Account has also multiple shots of this phone. These sleek brand placements are part of LG’s culture awareness campaign.
Although Eminem hasn’t spoken on the brand collab yet. However, Lil Yachty has talked about it in an interview with Complex. He underscores being “different” as the reason for this involvement. He quotes, “Ain’t no other phone got two screens. That’s different. I like that, and want to be associated with it, as opposed to everybody else going this way or going that way.”
He further extols the benefit of dual-screen devices by saying, “being able to do two things at one time, it’s a lot easier. I’m able to get more than one thing done, you know, juggle two things at once. I can play a game or stream online, look at the analytics. You could have YouTube running and your Instagram on at the same time, or be sending a text and have Instagram going at the same time. It’s pretty cool. It sheds a lot of time.”
Brand partnerships are clever means to leverage the inordinate gush of entertainment content and the clout they command. In that sense, for marketers, streaming music videos are the holy grail. After all big shots like Eminem and Lil Yachty’s videos garner millions and even billions of views. Artists gain money and brands get exposure. A simple win-win.
