LG QNED Mini LED with 10,00,000:1 contrast ratio is coming to CES 2021

LG is a leading player in the OLED TV market and its CX model has been the winner of lots of praise throughout the year. But, as we are drawing close to the new year, LG has announced a new display technology. The South Korean giant has revealed its plans to unveil the world’s first-ever QNED Mini LED TVs at CES 2021.

So, it seems like LG is about to kick off the year with a New Year New TV tech resolution. Here’s all we know about the QNED display at the moment.

LG QNED Mini LED: What is it?

QNED is a marketing-speak that is supposedly an acronym for Quantum Dot Nanocell Emitting Diode. Actually, they are LCD panels with mini LED backlighting. LG mentions there will be “up to almost 30,000 tiny LEDs that produce incredible peak brightness and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 when paired with up to 2,500 dimming zones and advanced local dimming zones”.

And what you get (as per the company) is “excellent HDR image quality with outstanding contrast and blacks, a wide color gamut and incredible color accuracy”. LG claims these will offer “a truly immersive viewing experience in the LCD space”.

Furthermore, these will be boasting a refresh rate of up to 120Hz for a fluid smooth responsiveness. LG reveals there will be 10 models sporting the QNED Mini LED display from its 2021 slate of TVs. These will feature 4K (Ultra-HD) and 8K resolutions, ranging up to 86-inches in size.

Mini LED is considered to be a stopgap solution till the microLED tech is ready for the mass market. As the company addresses, OLED with its “self-lit pixels and independent dimming control” is still the focus and flagship offering. And, the new QNED TV will rather act as a strong choice for its consumers.

LG QNED Mini LED: Release and Availability

The top-trim 86-inch 8K QNED TV will debut at LG’s virtual exhibition booth, CES 2021. The year’s first big electronics event will start on January 11.

Commenting on the new display tech, SVP, R&D, LG Home Entertainment division, Mr. Nam Ho-jun said, “Our new QNED series is a premium home entertainment option that expands and improves the LCD TV space and gives consumers another terrific viewing choice”. He further added, “These TVs deliver an experience that set them apart from other LCD TVs and speaks to our commitment to innovation and pushing the standard forward”.
