So, it seems like LG is about to kick off the year with a New Year New TV tech resolution. Here’s all we know about the QNED display at the moment.
LG QNED Mini LED: What is it?
QNED is a marketing-speak that is supposedly an acronym for Quantum Dot Nanocell Emitting Diode. Actually, they are LCD panels with mini LED backlighting. LG mentions there will be “up to almost 30,000 tiny LEDs that produce incredible peak brightness and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 when paired with up to 2,500 dimming zones and advanced local dimming zones”.
And what you get (as per the company) is “excellent HDR image quality with outstanding contrast and blacks, a wide color gamut and incredible color accuracy”. LG claims these will offer “a truly immersive viewing experience in the LCD space”.

Mini LED is considered to be a stopgap solution till the microLED tech is ready for the mass market. As the company addresses, OLED with its “self-lit pixels and independent dimming control” is still the focus and flagship offering.
