JioCinema, the streaming platform owned by Viacom18 and led by Mukesh Ambani, has been making waves in the Indian market since it started offering free 4K streaming of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, it was reported that the company is working on paid subscription plans for its platform. This comes after Viacom18 secured the digital rights to stream IPL in India for the 2023-2027 cycle by paying a whopping $2.7 billion, beating out the competition from Disney+ Hotstar.

A Reddit user spotted a test website that showcased three premium subscription plans – Gold, Daily, and Platinum. Although the company has not confirmed these plans yet, the website revealed that all the plans would offer the same content at the highest quality, i.e., 4K. “Watch all content, on any device, in the highest quality, on all JioCinema Premium plans”, the website reads.

The Daily plan, usually priced at ₹29, will be offered at ₹2 with a validity of one day, allowing the user to stream content on two devices. The Gold plan, priced at ₹299, will be offered at ₹99 and comes with a validity of three months, enabling users to stream content on up to two devices at the same time. The top-tier Platinum plan, priced at ₹1,199, will be offered at ₹599, providing a validity of 12 months and allowing users to stream content on up to four devices simultaneously. Additionally, it will offer an ad-free experience apart from the live content.

The plans are not yet live on the platform, so users don’t have to worry about subscriptions for now. Furthermore, the company previously stated that the first edition of the IPL would be streamed for free. More details about the JioCinema subscription plans are expected to be revealed once the company confirms the plans.

JioCinema’s entry into the Indian streaming market has disrupted the industry, and these premium plans could help it stay ahead of the competition. With the rising demand for high-quality content, JioCinema’s 4K streaming and affordable premium plans could be the game-changer that the Indian streaming industry needs. The plans will cater to users with different viewing habits and budgets, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

The IPL’s popularity in India is undeniable, and JioCinema’s exclusive rights to stream the league for the next five years will undoubtedly bring in more viewers. By providing premium plans, JioCinema is not only offering an ad-free experience, but it’s also giving users the freedom to watch content on multiple devices simultaneously. This feature is a significant advantage for households with multiple viewers who want to watch different shows or sports events simultaneously.

JioCinema’s upcoming premium subscription plans offer a unique perspective on streaming services in India. With its affordable prices, 4K streaming quality, and exclusive rights to IPL, it could change the streaming landscape in India. The plans offer an alternative to the expensive streaming services available in India and cater to users with different budgets and viewing habits. With the exclusive rights to IPL and its 4K streaming quality, JioCinema is poised to become one of the major players in the Indian streaming market.

JioCinema and Voot merger on cards could be rebranded as JioVoot

It has been rumored that Jio Platforms is considering merging its popular streaming app JioCinema with Voot, another streaming app that focuses on streaming TV shows from Viacom 18, live news, and movies. Following this merger, JioCinema is speculated to be rebranded as JioVoot.

The merger of JioCinema and Voot into JioVoot can disrupt the Indian streaming market by offering users an all-in-one platform for streaming movies, TV shows, live news, and sports. This move can also enable Jio to gain a competitive edge over established players in the industry and provide a seamless streaming experience for users. With the potential of this merger yet to be realized, it will be interesting to see how JioVoot fares in the Indian streaming market.
