TL;DR
- Even if Apple is considering launching its TV set, it could take another two to three years before the product comes out.
- It goes without saying that an Apple-branded TV should be more premium than the competition offers.
- Selling its own TV set will give the company better control over its hardware, software, and, more importantly, the connected ecosystem features.
Don’t be surprised if you see an Apple-branded TV set on the shelves in the coming years. Apparently, the Cupertino-based tech giant is exploring the pros and cons associated with an Apple-branded TV set. Although not much is known about the device yet, we can build upon the available information to give you a good idea of what’s cooking.

Apple Could Launch A TV Set, But Only If Its Upcoming Smart Home Devices Do Well

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is evaluating making an Apple-branded TV set. Gurman didn’t go into the details, but he mentioned that the TV set could come out if other Apple smart home devices do well. This includes the rumored AI-enabled wall-mounted smart home device.
Usually, it takes the company a couple of years to go from brainstorming ideas about a product to working prototypes and, finally, a consumer-grade product. Hence, even if Apple is considering launching its TV set, it could take another two to three years before the product comes out.

Apple Already Has Some Experience Of Working With TV Brands
Currently, Apple sells a streaming box called Apple TV. In order to make a streaming box work flawlessly across a variety of television units from different companies, Apple must have tested the product with some popular TV units. Further, the company sells the Studio Display, a monitor with built-in speakers and a front camera. Hence, the tech giant already has some experience with a TV’s operating system and monitor’s hardware.
Even though third-party sellers already support Apple TV+, selling its own TV set will give the company better control over its hardware, software, and, more importantly, the connected ecosystem features. Improved integration with the ecosystem implies that other Apple devices, like the iPhone, iPad, and AirPods, will work better with the TV set.

Better Integration With Apple Devices, Premium Hardware, And A Premium Price Tag

It goes without saying that an Apple-branded TV should be more premium than the competition offers. Instead of the blacked-out plastic frames and cabinets, the company’s TV could feature an aluminum frame and soft-touch accents around the chassis. Further, the TV could be released in the classic light gray and drag gray colors that are prominent in the MacBook and iPad lineup.
However, the company’s design language (using premium materials) could work against it. The TV market is pretty competitive as it is, especially in India, where you can get a 43-inch HD television (with support for OTT platforms) under Rs. 20,000. This is another reason why the company would have to give the idea some serious thought.
We Hope The Apple-Branded TV Doesn’t Turn Out To Be Another Vision Pro
Unlike the Vision Pro, a majority of Apple’s key demographic already have a TV in their place. Apple just has to convince them to upgrade to their product as it offers better features, connectivity, and perhaps a complimentary subscription to Apple TV+ streaming service. Competitors in the space include giants like LG, Samsung, Sony, and Xiaomi.
Many people don’t know this, but it was Steve Jobs’s idea to make an Apple-branded television unit with the simplest user interface of all. Unfortunately, the idea couldn’t come to life as Jobs passed away in 2011. However, as the company comes closer to executing the idea in the coming years, it could connect Jobs’s legacy with the product to promote it.
