Rumors about a new iPhone SE show up every now and then, but a new report seems to carry concrete information about the fourth iteration of the Special Edition phone. We’ve heard about Apple having second thoughts regarding the iPhone SE 4, which led to reports about the company canceling the lineup and then starting to work on it again. Amid the confusion, here’s what a new report says about the unreleased iPhone SE 4.
iPhone SE 4 Might Look Like iPhone 14
According to a report by MacRumors, the iPhone SE 4 is internally known by the codename “Ghost.” And while the first three generations have carried a similar form factor, the iPhone SE 4 could come with a design derived from the iPhone 14.
Per the publication’s sources, the next iPhone SE will use a modified version of the iPhone 14’s chassis, including a USB-C port and an action button. For those catching up, Apple introduced a USB-C port on all iPhone 15 models and the action button (configurable to perform various tasks) on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

This also implies that we could get an edge-to-edge screen with a tiny notch on the top, rather than the thick bezels on the iPhone SE 3. The iPhone SE 4 will feature a single rear camera (with a flash), as we’ve seen on 2022’s iPhone SE 3. Interestingly, the report also adds that Apple has prepared at least five mock-ups for the camera module on the next iPhone SE.
While some have the camera and flash in an oblong-shaped cutout (like the dual-camera setup on the iPhone 8 Plus), the others have only the camera ring protruding from the rear panel (like the cameras on the Galaxy S23 series).
Fourth Generation iPhone SE Could Feature A 48MP Camera
More importantly, the iPhone SE 4 could feature a 48MP primary camera, which means the company could enable two times lossless zoom. Further, since the phone will borrow its design from the iPhone 14, it could feature Face ID instead of the good old Touch ID on the iPhone SE 3. Apple is also using the iPhone SE 4 to test its in-house 5G modem. However, it is unlikely that the phone will ship with this.

Since the company is putting so much effort into redesigning the iPhone SE 4, there’s a good chance that the phone will enter mass production and be available as the rightful successor of the iPhone SE 3. However, this is preliminary information as the phone is in the early production stages. Hence, readers should take it with a pinch of salt.
