Last year, iPhone 15 Pro customers had to compromise with the 5x tetraprism lens. However, according to a report by DigitTimes, the iPhone maker could equip the iPhone 16 Pro with the same periscope sensor as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The report mentions that Apple has placed more orders for its tetraprism periscope lens (which provides 5x optical zoom) than usual.

iPhone 16 Pro Could Get The 5x Optical Zoom Lens It Deserves

“Taiwanese lens module manufacturers Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO) are expected to be the primary suppliers,” the report adds. If true, this could be a big selling point for the Pro version, both in the company’s native and international markets.
Last year, Apple reserved the high-quality tetraprism lens for its top-tier iPhone 15 Pro Max. For the handset, Largan Precision provided the periscope lenses. The other supplier, Genius Electronic, has likely received the orders for the first time, as its name hasn’t been turned up previously.
A 48MP Triple Camera Setup Would Be Awesome
Based on the information, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could ship with significant camera improvements. While the primary sensor on the 16 Pro Max could be refreshed, the iPhone 16 Pro might retain the same sensor as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. On the other hand, both models could feature a new 48MP ultrawide sensor, improving the overall picture quality.
However, whether Apple will increase the resolution of the telephoto sensor is something we’re interested to see. It is unlikely that the zoom lens will be improved any further, given that the company only released it last year. However, a triple 48MP camera sensor would be exciting, especially for camera enthusiasts.

Apple Could Start Manufacturing iPads In India: Report

Elsewhere, a report by moneycontrol.com reveals that Apple might resume its efforts to manufacture iPads in India. Over the last few years, the company has established some successful assembly lines in the country. However, Apple’s manufacturing partners are only making iPhones in the country. Nonetheless, the company could start looking for manufacturing partners to make iPads.
Reportedly, India also wants Apple to manufacture its MacBooks and iMacs in the country, which are relatively more expensive than iPhones. Over the next three to four years, Apple wants to manufacture around 25% or a quarter of its iPhones in India, up from 14% of the total production right now.
It is important to mention that as of the previous financial year, Apple made nearly $14 billion worth of iPhones in the country, which is expected to double by 2025-2026.
